Federal Route 41 is a north-south route running somewhat along the Lake Michigan shore in northeastern Illinois. It enters from Wisconsin in the northeastern corner of the state and exits into Indiana near Lake Michigan. For much of its length in the City of Chicago, it follows the famed Lake Shore Drive.

Intersections from north to south:

US41 enters Illinois from Wisconsin multiplexed with I-94 near the northeast corner of the state

US41 breaks off of I-94 about one mile into Illinois*

IL173 near Wadsworth

IL21 at Gurnee

IL132 at Gurnee

At an interchange just west of Waukegan, US41 intersects IL43 at that route's northern end and IL120

IL137 by North Chicago

IL176 at Lake Bluff

IL60 at Lake Forest

IL22 by Highland Park

US41 joins I-94 south again*

US41 crosses IL68, but only traffic coming from the south can access IL68, and vice versa

US41 breaks off of I-94 near Wilmette

IL50 at Skokie

US41 crosses US14 near Lincolnwood

US14 ends at US41 in Chicago

IL19 at Chicago

IL64 at Chicago

I-55 at that route's northern terminus at Chicago, near McCormick Place

US12/ 20 joins from the west at Chicago

US41 crosses into Indiana along with US12/20 at Chicago

It passes through these towns: Wadsworth, Gurnee, Park City, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Highwood, Highland Park, Northfield, Skokie, Lincolnwood, and Chicago.
