Harold Carter--Orvil Carter...
William Francis (Frank) Carter (August 9, 1861-September 22, 1934) and
Ida Rice (September 17, 1868-December 18, 1954)

William Francis (Frank) was born in 1861 in New Albany, Harrison County, Indiana to Francis Marion Carter and Ellen Strong when his father was 29 and his mother was about 25. He was the fourth of 13 children, all born in Harrison, Indiana, five of whom died at birth.

Ida Jane Rice, daughter of David Rice and Amelia Pennington, was born in 1868 on their farm north of Topeka, Kansas when her father was 40 and her mother 42. She was one of nine children. Other children were William E (married Melinda Sherman, native of Indiana); Mary W. (married William Kemp, native of Maryland); Rachel E. (married William F. Cunningham, native of Missouri; John Wesley; David S. (married Della Josephine Miller, native of Kansas who died 12/10/1882); Amelia V. (married Thomas Hutchinson, native of Ohio); Annie E. (married Matthew Cole, native of Ohio); and Charles Ellsworth (died 12/11/82).

After Frank and Ida married on July 11, 1889, they lived for ten years on a farm east of Dannebrog, Nebraska. About 1900 they moved to a farm near Dearing, Kansas. They had five children between 1894 and 1904, the oldest being Orvil. The children were: Orvil William (born 1895, Dannebrog, Nebraska; died 1969, Coffeyville, Kansas); Francis Myrl (born 1896 near Topeka, Kansas; died 1958 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma); Ethel Amelia (born 1898 near Topeka, Kansas; died 1917 in Dearing, Kansas); Bertha Ellen (born 1900 near Topeka, KS; died ? in Coffeyville, KS); and Ida Leona (called Leona, born 1904 near Topeka; died ? in Coffeyville, KS).

Frank died in 1934 at the age of 73, Ida in 1954 at the age of 86. Both are buried in Coffeyville.

Harold Carter--Mabel Riggs...
David Luther Riggs (October 12, 1855 - Sept. 4, 1927) and
Lucinda Ellen Coons
(July 13, 1855 - March 8, 1938)

David Luther was born in Sullivan County, Indiana to Richard David Riggs and Martha Jane Harris when his father was 32 and his mother was 27. He came to Kansas with his family at age 15 when they took a land grant on a farm near Coffeyville. Lucinda was born in Clark County, Illinois. They married when they were both 26 and had 5 children, Mabel being the youngest, all born in Coffeyville. Their children were Allie May (born 1883-- died 1971); Clarence Jesse (born 1885--died 1946); Orville Charley (born 1891--died?); Marion Francis (born 1894--died 1895); and Mabel Elizabeth (born 1895--died 1967).

David died at the age of 71, Marth at age 82, in Coffeyville and are both buried there in Elmwood Cemetery.
