****Proud To Be An American****

Welcome to my site that with the help of some very special people I was able to put together. The time that I got to know each and every person that had input and suggestions has only served to make my sight one of which can bring pleasure to everyone that takes the time to turn the pages. There are many hard real life poems on the pages as you turn them, some will bring smiles, some will bring tears but each and everyone will bring thought. I hope that the enjoyment that you receive in reading what I have written will be equal to the joy I had in writing it. Enjoy reading each line and also understanding what is not written in each line.

""""OLD GLORY""""

She waves in the gentle breeze from her perch up high
Silhouetted up against a bright blue sky
She has been shown honor and has been burned in disgrace
Of all the ordeals courageously she does face
She has draped the coffins of many who have died as her protector
Showing her respects to the ones that gladly served her
She has traveled to many a distant and troubled foreign land
To show support for others who want to make a stand
She watches over our ports, to which the less fortunate come
Meaning hopes and dreams to those that will call this land home
She proudly waived when our country was born
When we fought on our own land she was tattered and torn
She proudly shows her colors when flying on parade
And with great pride the first was, by hand, was made
She is shown respect by many as she passes them by
Others could care less, one must ask themselves why
She has been displayed the whole world wide
Always leading the way, never trying to hide
About her, stories have been told, yet never to brag
She is "Old Glory" our American Flag

""""Over The Land""""

I stood there silently looking out
Over the grass so green
The white of the cross markers
Stretched for as far as can be seen
Many a grave was marked on that grass
Where many a fallen soldier lay silent
Those that gave their lives for us
So we could live without torment
Many had died in far distant lands
Answering the call of duty from their country
They stood tall and proud in the battles
Many that had gone and performed their duty
Many were decorated for things they had done
Some for the battles that they had helped to win
But one thing was sure of all these fallen heroes
They would, if able, answer their country’s call again
There are men and woman laying there side by side
It makes no difference as heroes they all are
Some fought the battles that were close to home
But others had traveled to lands afar
Many a coffin has been brought back home
Over it a flag, in honor, has been laid
So the country could honor this fallen warrior
And to them, the respect that they deserve could be paid
Many a family has watched on and cried
As their loved ones have been laid there to rest
Told by the country and comrades that survived
That these heroes had always given their best
Now these white markers are silent reminders
Of those heroes that have been laid there
As silence over this green grass now falls
Their memories are there for us to share
As the days pass on more graves will be added
Some soldiers will return home, as over them the good lord watches
But the less fortunate surely will fall
So stand there proud and look out so tall
As from their country nothing else would they ask
Just pay them the respect that is due them
For doing what their country had tasked
So when you pass through this silent area
Pass with little noise and pay them all your respect
As in silence these fallen heroes are put there to lay
Laying cold in the ground that they fought hard to protect

Dedicated to the fallen heroes in all the cemeteries, not just in our country but in distant lands. Those that fought when they were asked and stood proud in battle so that we could have the life that we have today. They asked no thanks for what they did but did so with courage, honor, and dignity. God bless the fallen warriors and may Gods commander watch over them as they sleeping forever.

""""The United States MIA's""""

They came to the front standing proud and tall
When they were asked to answer our country's call
They were sent to lands so far away
Where they were asked to put their lives on the line, day after day
They went without asking the question WHY
Knowing that in combat, some were certainly going to die
They knew their country was behind them one hundred percent
Because to this far away land, their country, they had sent
Many were wounded but still fought on in the fight
Ducking the enemy bullets, whether the day or the night
Many were captured and taken to places unknown
The numbers captured had each day steadily grown
They were treated bad and constantly tortured too
As they waited many long days for freedom to come too
Each day took a toll on the bodies of these great men
Who now wondered about the country they had agreed to defend
They thought from the beginning that they wouldn't be there long
But most soon realized that they were certainly wrong
When the end was over and the country brought the soldiers on back
Many a name on the list certainly they did lack
Many were left behind in hands of people they never knew
Wondering if ever the country would come after them too
Some were killed and the country never found their remains
But on our country's flag remain these great stains
Some were lost in battle and their bodies never found
As it appeared they had been sucked up by the unknown ground
These brave soldiers had fought and now were suddenly gone away
As forever their bodies will remain in lands far away
Many were kept in cages until they could be set free
They would never be released and back with loved ones where they wanted to be
They sat and waited for their country to come back for them
The warriors who had fought, but were now forgotten men
Many will die never seeing the homeland again, that sent them there
Wondering in their minds do those people back there even care
Many long days they spent wondering about friends and family back home
Many will however die, lonesome and alone
But those of us who have family lost and don't know where they are at
Will always remember these soldiers and they can be sure of that
Though many families have felt sorrow not knowing their loved ones fate
But for word about them they hopefully still wait
People back in our homeland, remember these soldiers day after day
As they have vowed to never forget the United States soldiers who are ""MIA""

""""Death On the Battlefield""""

We knew we were in a real fight
One that could surely mark our end
But the piece of land we now occupied
This we must now proudly defend
We turned back the enemy
As bullets flew flying overhead
I was returning their fire
When I heard this up close thud
Bullets were hitting all around us
Some were even throwing up the mud
Then the soldier next to me
I heard gasp for air as he grabbed me
Falling down and laying there
In that small little foxhole right there beside me
I looked down at him
Seeing a great pain etched on his face
I stopped what I was then doing
As this fallen comrade I did embrace
He looked up at me with knowing eyes
Knowing that the end was there
But his last words he wanted me to have
And those last few minutes to share
I cradled him in my arms and softly held him
Listening to everything he said
He said write a letter to my loved one
With your name she will know that I am dead
Tell her not to cry for me
But remember the good times that we had
Tell her to hold her head up high when she speaks of me
Tell her to be proud of me not sad
Take my body home to my family
And tell all that I did my best
Have them honor me in my passing
As I lay down to my final rest
Tell my country that I fought with honor
And never gave up the fight
But slowly now the light that I see
Is slowly slipping into night
He grabbed at my uniform to get a tighter hold
As he gasped for his last breath of air
Then his body went limp and his life was gone
Now to myself I thought “Is this really fair?”
This soldier that gave his life for others
So that in freedom they may live today
Had to end his life like this
Fighting a battle on soil so far away
I promised to him to carry out his wish
And do everything he had asked
I made a vow nothing would stop me
As I would complete his dying request task
I held him tighter to let him know
That in my heart he would always be
That brave American Soldier
Who died that day, while fighting, beside of me
I will remember the strength he showed
Even until his very last breath
Knowing I will always have memories of his bravery
After having witnessed his death
Now I heard no sounds of battle
As everything now was so still
As bullets fired in the heat of battle
I wondered how many more heroes they would kill

""""Blue And The Gray""""

Many years ago on this great land
Men and families were asked to make a stand
The country was divided as there was an argument to decide
But it had ripped at this country and caused a great divide
There were the ones who were from up north
And the others from the deep south
Who mostly stood on one side of the line
Then the ones from the south that had something else in mind
The argument was over slavery, the owning of another human being
And each others opinions neither side was seeing
Well then the war started as they fired that first shot
Families fighting against each other, but this they had forgot
Well neither side would give in on that fateful day
The day our country was divided, into the blue and the gray
Many skirmishes were fought all over the land
Many of our brave people, died where they did stand
They did as they were asked and most did not complain
But loyal to their cause, they all certainly did remain
Now there were some battles that were more noted then the rest
As the number of the dead could certainly attest
There was Shiloh Hill, Atlanta, Antietam, Gettysburg to name a few
The number of soldiers gathered at these numbered quite a few
The smell of burned powder would quickly fill the air
And after the smoke was cleared, there were bodies everywhere
Now there were many great leaders that answered the call from their side
And many of the leaders, upon horses they did ride
They watched over the battlefield and pained when their men died
And deep down inside each of them the true pain they did hide
Well finally a corner was turned and the end was now in sight
At last there was going to be a time, they could end this awful fight
Now they met at an Appomattox Court House, as quiet swept over all
The peace they were about to enter would, to lay down the arms, call
Well between Lee and Grant words were spoken on that eventful day
As the war had finally ended, and the killing stopped between the blue and the gray
A proclamation had been spoken by the leader of this great land
And it was written by his great hand
Well after all the fighting was done and soldiers had returned home
Peace to our great country had finally now come
But the war would wage on in families from all around
As in the homes of many you would hear some discouraging sounds
Many still did not want to admit that some had the right to be free
Even if the right to leave is what they wanted to see
Now the war is long gone and we learn about it in history
How that one big decision had torn apart our country
Now the shame that is upon us is plain to see
That things today are not settled, and the way that they should be
Still people are picked on and segregated for what they are
This can be seen across this great land, covering both near and far
Whether it is their beliefs, nationalities, or color of their skin
Why can’t living as one big happy country finally begin
Let everyone have their say as to the way that they live
And the respect that we ourselves want, to them give
Then maybe as a country, in whole, we will be able to be
And all inside our borders will work in perfect harmony
So when your beliefs don’t agree and in argument you are lost
Take a moment and look back, even then, needless lives were lost

""""Our House""""

There is a spot in this great land
Where the core of our country does stand
It is a place that is owned by us all
“This is our house,” can be every person’s call
A place that we decide who goes there
And we should always do this with great care
Many great decisions there have been made
Many great plans for this country have been laid
We choose who sits in this one place we own
And around the world this person will become well known
Every four years there is a chance for change
As for another person to govern we can arrange
We hope that they will do what is best for us
And can accomplish this without fan fare or fuss
Many great men have set behind this desk of wood
Many in battle for our land have stood
Some were killed while in this office they held without fear
Their deaths mourned by our country that loved them so dear
Many decisions in this world were made from this place
As back to our land, peace and prosperity the world can trace
From this leader we elect, our country supports those in need
Knowing at times that this is really no easy deed
Sometimes decisions to put our loved ones in harms way are made
And with many a heroes life some of these decisions have been paid
Now over the years some scandals have rocked it’s walls
And then again many of our country’s heroes have walked it’s halls
Some have been asked to lead us when times were rough
But leading us they did as they showed us how to be tough
Many great world leaders have come here to visit
As in our house they relaxingly did sit
Knowing that this land would be just and be fair
As for everyone’s freedom this is our care
Now every time it comes time to decide
Who in our house we really want to reside
Make sure that you think and weigh all the cons and pros
And select the best person there is to eliminate all our woes
Because for four years here they will sit
As from our house, this land, they will govern it
So remember if ever you pass this way again
From “Our House”, leading this country does begin
