“What is going to happen to your daughter now?”
*I don’t know.*
“Devgan!” Zena sighed, “Why did we bring her with us?”
*I don’t know. There is a reason though, that I do know.*
Zena walked behind Devgan who was flying ahead of her. “You don’t make any sense sometimes.” Zena said and looked down at the blue egg with lighter blue spots. It was Devgan’s first born girl and the only female in the clutch actually. Devgan had insisted on taking the girl with him, but nobody was completely sure why. He just said, *There is a reason.* He didn’t say anymore. Zena was beginning to question Devgan’s judgment.
*Likewise Zena, at times you confuse me as well as I confuse you. As said before, I don’t know why I brought her with me. There is a reason as I’ve said before.*
“Who is supposed to be her bondmate? She may hatch at any time, you never know.”
*I don’t know.* Zena sighed at the, ‘I don’t know.’ But Devgan hadn’t finished. *She knows though.*
“What is that supposed to mean?” Zena asked looked up at the sky which Devgan blended into almost perfectly.
Smiling in his own way Devgan said, *My daughter knows who her bondmate is.*
“I don’t understand why you brought her.”
*Zena. I don’t either. Something is going to happen. Be it good or bad I don’t know, but something is going to happen.*
“Well… Let us hope it shall be good.”
Devgan shook his head, *I’m leaning towards not so good.*
Zena looked down at the ground, “I didn’t want to hear that.” She perked up and said, “Well at least we’re back.” Indeed they had know arrived at the small town were Osano was. “Home.”
*Yes, home.*
“Dear! Oh you’re back!” Osano appeared running towards Zena and Devgan. “What’s that you’ve got there?” She asked peering closely at the egg in Zena’s arms. “Another dragon? Your daughter Devgan?”
*Yes.* Devgan said a little taken back, *How did you know of my daughter?*
“Well you have your new children and you were off to see them and I know that is a female egg and,…”
“Calm down Osano, you are right. Just calm down.”
“What is to happen to the little girl?”
Zena shook her head, “I have no clue. I don’t know why we brought her. Devgan just said that we had to, so we did. End of story.” Zena didn’t add anything about Devgan’s little predictions or such stuff. She didn’t want to worry Osano.
*Time shall show us what we or rather Zena wants to know.* Devgan said as Zena stepped up onto the small porch of Osano’s shop. He hovered next to her eyes twinkling. Looking down at his only daughter he let out a sigh. *What is to happen to her? I do not know. I wish the best for my daughter.* He smiled and added, *And for my sons who did not get to come with me.*
Zena suddenly felt like prancing around singing, “Devgan’s a daddy!” But she didn’t besides Osano had beaten her to it and was prancing around singing just that. Zena shook her head and thought, ‘Osano and I tend to think alike.’ “Devgan’s a daddy!” Osano sang.
*Yes I am.* Devgan said while taking a bite into a large apple as Osano went in and out of the door.
“I’m going to cry.” Zena muttered.
Wrinkling his nose Devgan smiled at Osano and Zena. *Don’t cry.*
“Can’t help it, you really are all grown up.”
*Yes I am. I have been since I had my Shantel Zena. That has been a while.*
Zena sat down at a table and finally Osano did the same after wearing herself out. Setting Devgan’s little girl down in the center of the table Zena layed her head on the table. “Yeah. I know Devgan.” She said. “But I never really realized that you were all grown up. I mean.. You’ll always be my little Devgan. Mr. Can-Always-Put-a-Smile-On-Your-Face-and-Make-Everything-Okay.”
Devgan settle himself on the floor giving his wings a rest after flying so much. *That’s a fairly long title.*
Zena shrugged. “Well it’s what you do.”
*Perhaps.* Devgan said then yawned. *I am tired aren’t you?* Zena nodded. *Then I think we should go get some rest.*
Lifting her head Zena rested one of her hands on the egg in front of her. “I worry about her.”
Devgan nodded. *I do as well.*
“I don’t see what all of the fuss is about.” Osano spoke up. “The little egg seems to be fine.”
Devgan looked down at the ground almost sad like, Zena did the same. Everybody remained silent not saying anything. “It’s time for us to go Osano.” Zena finally said breaking the long silence. Osano nodded and got up to head towards the door. Carefully Zena once again picked up the blue egg, Devgan stretched briefly before taking to the air.
*My wings.* He muttered. *How long have I been flying again?*
“I lost track.” Zena said. Her feet were sore and she would be very happy when she could be off them and sleeping in her bed.
Zena walked out the door and stared at the dusty road which lay right in front of the shop. “I’ll be to work tomorrow Osano.” She said as she passed by the older lady.
Osano shook her head and smiled. “After a journey like that, take the day off. I’ll be fine on my own.”
“But Osano,…”
“No buts girl! You haven’t had a day off in such a long time, you need one. Besides,” Osano bent in to whisper to Zena. “that Devgan is more trouble than help around the shop. Ever since he was a wyrm. Knocking down boxes.” She laughed knowing Devgan was behind her.
*I heard that.*
“Of course you did dear!” Osano grinned at him. Devgan looked towards the sky. “Oh come on! You know I didn’t mean anything by it!”
*I know,* said Devgan. *I’m just thinking.*
“Why did I decide to live so far from town?” Zena asked while trudging up the path to her little home.
*Because you felt like an outcast?*
“Right.” Zena said. “Want to move into town?”
*I wish to stay in the forests and you know that you do as well.* Devgan flew up to weave in and out of the tree’s.
Zena yawned. “I know.”
*Forests of beauty. You shall never leave them, no. Beautiful forests.* Devgan muttered happily while dipping, swerving and skidding around the forest.
“What was that?” Zena asked. “And where do you get all of your energy?”
*That was Haiku I believe. One of my first attempts at it. As for my energy, I don’t know. It’s just that being home makes me glad.*
“Oh… Well I’m ready to drop over and fall asleep.”
*We are almost home.*
Zena lifted her head and gazed ahead of her. “Yup.” She said spotting her house. “Home sweet home. Yet ever so,.. Oh forget it. I forgot the rest of it.”
Devgan shook his head and hovered next to the door of the house. *I believe I shall stay outside if that is okay.*
“Always okay. I think I shall be going to bed.” Devgan flew off as Zena said this but he soon returned.
*Shall I take my daughter around for a fly through the forest?*
“She’s an egg. I don’t think she’ll be caring.”
*Zena please? She won’t see me until her Shantel, but she still knows what is happening on the outside of her egg. I wish to spend time with her even if she can’t talk to me or really see me. She knows I’m here.*
“If me being so tired wasn’t clouding my judgment I probably wouldn’t let you take her but if you can just wait for a while I’ll go get a backpack or something to put her in so you two can go, er, wherever you were going.”
Devgan smiled at Zena who returned moments later. “Here you go. Just, don’t drop her okay?”
*She’s my daughter! Like I’m about to drop my own daughter.*
“Yeah, yeah. I know.”
*How about to the mountains?* Devgan asked as he soared up to the mountains with his daughter hanging in a backpack while he held onto her with the strap of the backpack in his mouth. *You may like them.* He twirled around. *There is the cave in the mountainside. I go there to think while Zena is at work most of the time I sit. Occasionally I go exploring. Never to old for exploring. Remember that. Also remember that no matter what you should always be who you are.* Devgan flew towards the cave and went inside it. *A pleasant little place this is.* He settled down on the ground and set his daughter off to one side. *You know I never really thought I’d have any girls, I didn’t think I’d get a one, but there you are. In all of your little glory. My only daughter among four sons. Something’s going to take you away from me though. I wish I could stop it and you could find a bondmate around here, but then.. You’ve already chosen haven’t you? Who is she though, that is my question. How did you come to know of her? Sorry. Zena didn’t name me curious warrior for nothing. Though,.. The warrior part might be wrong. Your mother is far more the warrior than I’ll ever be. Curious though. That part is right.*
Devgan sat there for a long time enjoying the peacefulness. *Oi! Devgan!* Devgan jumped up and looked around the cave. *Don’t tell me you don’t recognize me voice now!*
Smiling Devgan said, *Skippy. Where are you hiding?*
*Haven’t seen you in days. Where ya been?* A medium sized mouse with light brown fur and a bent tail hopped out of the shadows. *O! Is dat egg for supper or something’s?*
Devgan blinked, *Goodness no! This is my daughter! Only daughter, she has four brothers.*
*Oh. Well dat be okay. Jus’ wondering. Four brothers? Poor gal. Oi. Devgan I’ve been wonderin' where ye’s been.* Skippy said hopping over to the egg to look at it.
*Been at the Bishen Realm.* Devgan said watching Skippy closely.
*Dat realm again? You’ve a been spendin’ a loot a time dere.*
Devgan nodded. *Yes I have. I’m sorry Skip, but I had to. I wanted to stay a while and get to see my children before they went off with bondmates. I wouldn’t have been able to see them again, not until their Shantel. This little girl is the only one to spend quality time with her dad.*
The mouse seemed to be having a fit and started to make a dreadful sound, *Dats da most beautiful thing I’s ‘ave ever heard.*
*Oookay.* Devgan says and looks towards the back of the cave. *You know my friend? I hid something here a while back, is it still here?*
*Uhh.. I don’t know.*
Devgan sighed and said, *Okay. I’ll go look for it myself.*
Skippy looked closer at the egg in front of him while Devgan went to the back of the cave to look for something. *Wait a second.* Skippy said. *Was it food? ‘Cause if it was I probably ate it.*
*You ate it?!* Devgan sighed. When suddenly he heard yelling. Flying as fast as he could he was back to the front of the cave. *What happened.*
*She dropped out of the cave!*
*Who?* Devgan asked but then saw that his daughter’s egg wasn’t in sight. In a flash Devgan was diving towards the ground outside of the cave on the steep mountainside. Feet away from catching the egg in the backpack it was getting dangerously close to the ground. Inches away from the ground an odd looking pool of silver water appeared and the egg fell into it. Instantly the pool disappeared and Devgan pulled out of the his dive hard. A stressed look on his face, *What? What just happened here?* He found himself asking. *My daughter. Swallowed by water?* Devgan shook his head and dived at the ground hitting the spot where the water had been with his nose. He repeated this many times. *No! Give her back!* But nothing happened. Devgan’s only daughter had vanished, was gone, and deep down he knew that he couldn’t get her back. She had gone somewhere else. Where? Devgan didn’t know.
