‘Something is beeping.’ Shune thought as she awoke to the beeping. ‘Why is something beeping?’ She asked herself. Turning to look around her room in all directions she noticed that it was the com-system beeping. She had a message. At this hour though? Who would send her a message at this hour? The answer was instantly in her mind. The new guy. Than.
Getting up from her bed Shune crossed the room and pressed the button to make the message play. “Shune this is Than. Look Syl’Onora and I are leaving. We must leave, please don’t come after us and don’t worry about us. Anyways. I think you should get these people out of this place and to someplace safe. Something isn’t right here and I think you know that. You seem to be their leader, well, lead them. They aren’t safe here.”
“No! You are foolish new Than. If they don’t catch you they will now know of you. I know you said in your message not to come after you two, but I fear that if I don’t you will not be able to get through the future in one piece.” Shune got into her normal clothes and went to the door. “Get them out?” She asked herself. “We have nowhere to go. Or else I probably would.” Opening her door she went out into the hall hoping drastically that she would not meet anybody while on her search for Than.
Getting outside was simple and soon she was among the streets. There was a small problem though. She didn’t really know where she was going having never actually been out among others. Shune stumbled as she went down the dark street. Silently she prayed that she wouldn’t get caught. The punishment for leaving your room was bad, but going into the city? It was unheard of for anybody, anybody to go into the city. As she kept walking looking for Than and Syl’Onora she passed a strange creature. The creature, which looked like a mix between a cat and a lizard, squawked at Shune making her turn to face it. A shocked, horrified look came upon Shune’s face when she saw the creature but then she saw a few miniatures of the large creature next to it. The little ones were all asleep and Shune smiled then said, “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to frighten you. I think you scared me as well.” Shune shivered slightly from a cold gust of wind and she moved away from the cat/lizard things.
“What are you doing here?” An old man asked seeming to just appear as Shune walked by. He gasped when he saw her uniform. “Stay away from me! Stay away devil girl!” He shouted. “Away!” He yelled again waving an old stick at her.
“I’m going!” Shune said back. “You don’t have to be so mean!”
“You’ll destroy us! You’ll destroy us all!” He yelled then quickly he scurried over to his door and went inside of his house slamming the door behind him.
‘Why is he so mean? Why did he say that I’d destroy them? Why? Why? Why? I have so many questions, but then, I don’t have any answers.’ Shune thought, “I don’t understand.” Getting an idea she shouted, “Than!” Nobody answered. It was likely that nobody heard her. The noise at night was equal to that during the day. Though the streets were not filled with cars you had to but look in the sky. High above the Earth thousands of cars were flying here, there, everywhere!
Gazing up into the sky Shune watched the lights of the cars as they flew across the sky. In truth they sort of looked like shooting stars, but they weren’t. Just cars. Sighing Shune crawled over to a trash compaction unit and got on top of it. The building beside her was enormous but Shune merely closed her eyes and seemed to concentrate. The sides of the building started to move and didn’t stop until a long flight of stairs was going up the side of the building. Smiling Shune started to climb the stairs. When she reached the top she stood on roof and gazed around the city. “Than! Syl'Onora!” No answer. Kicking a small pebble off of the building Shune said, “Perhaps I should just give up. If they got out they should be able to be fine. Why should I care?” But it was in Shune’s nature to care about such things.
Frowning Shune sat down. “What did he mean by get them out? We don’t have anywhere to go.” She muttered to herself while picking up some dirt and letting it spill from her hand to be caught by the wind. “It is true I suppose. That it would be best to get them out of the facility. I’d get them out, but I’m so confused.”
“Hey!” Somebody shouted. “Girl! What are you doing up here? You aren’t allowed up here. I request that you leave at once.”
“Why?”
“Please do not question or I shall be forced to take action unless you leave at once.”
"Again I am puzzled." Shune muttered but got up from her spot where she had been sitting. Going to the side of the roof she said. “I’m leaving.”
“Um. Miss? Perhaps that was wouldn’t be the best way down.” The guy said, “And how’d you get up here in the first place?”
Shune wasn’t listening. With her long light blue hair flowing behind her she suddenly jumped, but she didn’t just jump and let herself drop down to the street. She jumped to the neighboring building. As her feet rested on the top of the next building Shune turned and waved to the man on the other roof who had his mouth dropped open in shock. “Well.” The man said after several second, perhaps a minute. “You don’t see that everyday.”
‘I’m out here. In the city.' Thought Shune, ‘I’ve never been out here before. Why am I so concerned that I came out here to find somebody I barely even know. What is the purpose of all this? Where is the logic?’ She stood at the back of the building looking out to the rest of the city. One could drive for what seemed like days and never be out of the heart of the city. Just as Shune was about to sigh again she heard an explosion from above her. Two cars had collided in the air with each other. One was hurtling higher into the sky while the other was headed straight for the building Shune was standing on. Shune stood there fixed to the spot she was standing on. Slowly the car crashing into the building and the roof shook hard. Stumbling once the roof started to slide and Shune fell off. Falling off of the large building Shune was scared as any would be, but she was also calm at the same time. Putting her hands to her side she fell face first with rocks and rubble from the building falling all around her. Shune waited wondering if this was the end of her.
