Andrew, a freshman outfielder from Perth, Australia, batted .583 (7-12) for the week with three RBI, three runs and two doubles in leading SGU to the SAC Softball Tournament title. Bell, also a freshman from Perth, picked up the win in all three games and notched a single season NAIA record 383 strikeouts. She had a 1.75 ERA for the week.Imwalle, Ryan Earn Weekly HonorsMatt Imwalle of Oklahoma City University and Chris Ryan of Oklahoma Baptist University have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week for May 1-7. Imwalle, a senior third baseman from Redding, Calif., hit .471 (8-17) with a home run, three doubles, six runs and six RBI to lead the Stars to the SAC Tournament title. Ryan, a senior from Spring, Texas, was 2-0 in the SAC Tournament with a 0.75 earned run average. He allowed one earned run in the an 8-1 win over Wayland Baptist and then held 10th-ranked Lubbock Christian to two unearned runs over five innings on two days rest. The only other player to do so was USAO’s Dana Askins, seven weeks ago. Frizell, who hails from Purcell, Okla., wins the final awards of the season and has been Pitcher of the Week a league-best four times. Frizell was 3-0 on the week with a 0.65 earned run average with 33 strikeouts in 22.1 innings of work. She also hit .357 for the week with an .857 slugging percentage, clouting two home runs and a double while driving home eight in four games. He batted .727 (8-11) with two doubles, five home runs and 10 RBI. Pelton, a junior pitcher from Carslbad, N.M., tossed a two-hit shutout with seven strikeouts against Northwestern Oklahoma State. He carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning.Stars Sweep SAC Softball HonorsOklahoma City swept the Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week honors for April 17-23 with Dasha Shembereva and Kate Beasley winning the honors. Beasley, a senior left fielder from Norman, batted .571 (12-21) with three doubles, a triple, seven RBI and seven runs in leading the Stars to a 7-0 week. Shembereva, a junior pitcher from Moscow, Russia, was 6-0 in the circle for OCU, allowing no earned runs in 34 innings. She tossed one-hitters against Oklahoma Christian and Columbia College, finishing the week with 39 strikeouts.Cruz, Dominguez Take SAC Baseball HonorsWayland Baptist University’s Richard Cruz and Lubbock Christian University’s Armando Dominguez have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week for April 10-16. Cruz, a junior pitcher from Avondale, Ariz., held second-ranked Oklahoma Baptist to one run through 4.1 innings to pick up an extra-inning win on Saturday. He had a perfect ERA in 5.1 innings of work for the week. Dominguez, a freshman infielder from Presidio, Texas, batted .667 (6-9) with six runs, four home runs and 10 runs batted in to lead Lubbock Christian to a 4-0 week. He carried a 2.222 slugging percentage for the week and had a grand slam to help erase a seven-run deficit in one inning against St. Gregory’s.Freshmen Frizell, Boyer Earn HonorsFor the second time this season, freshmen have been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week awards Oklahoma Baptist catcher Jayme Boyer and Southern Nazarene pitcher Andrea Frizell won the award for April 10-16 after both also won the awards in the first week. Boyer, a Shawnee product, hit .500 (6-12) for the week with four runs, 1 double, three home runs and eight runs batted in over four games. She established a new single-season OBU record with her SAC-leading 11th home run and carried a 1.333 slugging average for the week. Frizell, a right-hander from Purcell, allowed two runs, both unearned, in claiming two wins over No. 23 Texas Wesleyan, Northwood and Northwestern Oklahoma State. She had 45 strikeouts for the week against five walks in 30 innings.Stars Sweep SAC Baseball HonorsOklahoma City University’s Tyler Kelsey and Ryan Rachal have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week for April 3-9. Kelsey, a sophomore pitcher from Edmond, was 2-0 for the week, including a 10-4 win over second-ranked California Baptist. He fanned nine hitters in 8.3 innings of work for the week. Rachal, a junior left-fielder from Norman, led OCU to a 4-0 week with a .667 batting average (10-15) with three home runs, six RBI, nine runs scored and a slugging percentage of 1.400.OCU Sweeps SAC Softball HonorsOklahoma City University’s Dasha Shembereva and Ursula Lundberg have been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week awards for April 3-9. Shembereva, a junior pitcher from Moscow, Russia, picked up five wins in six decisions with a 0.50 earned run average. She struck out 30 batters in 41.2 innings of work. She leads the NAIA with 29 wins. Jeffress, a sophomore from Plainview, Texas, held Southern Nazarene to one unearned run for a perfect earned run average on the week. He fanned eight in seven innings of work, walked four and allowed three hits in WBU’s 3-1 win. Schenck, a senior second baseman from Amarillo, Texas, batted .556 with two doubles and two home runs for a 1.000 slugging percentage. Hair of Southern Nazarene University have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Baseball Pitcher and Player of the Week for March 20-26. McLaughlin, a senior from Sapulpa, Okla., tossed a three-hit shutout in a 7-0 win over Wayland Baptist, striking out eight in the complete-game, seven-inning effort. Hair, a senior center fielder from Riverside, Calif., drove home 11 runs in three games in leading Southern Nazarene to two wins over sixth-ranked Lubbock Christian. He homered in all three games, including a grand slam in SNU’s 10-7 loss. He batted .417 for the week with a double, three home runs and a 1.250 slugging percentage.Frizell, Calvert Gain Softball HonorsAndrea Frizell of Southern Nazarene and Cat Calvert of Oklahoma City University have been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week awards for March 27- April 2. She had shut-out wins against Mid-America Christian, Oklahoma Baptist and East Central, striking out 45 batters and allowing 17 hits and six walks in 29 innings of work. Calvert, a junior catcher from Grand Prairie, Texas, became the first recorded NAIA player to hit two grand slams in a game. Patterson, a 6-2 senior guard from Lubbock, Texas, led the Chaparrals to wins over Sul Ross State and Adams State, averaging 22 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists. He was averaging 10 points heading into the week.Goss, Hurd Named Player of the Week HonorsNorthwestern Oklahoma State University’s Erin Goss and Oklahoma Baptist University’s Julius Hurd have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Dec. 12-18. Goss, a senior post from Alva, shot 67 percent and scored 28 points – the highest total this season by any Northwestern players – while bringing down a dozen rebounds to go with three assists, a block and a steal in a 71-67 loss to Hastings. Julius Hurd, a 6-6 junior forward from Dallas, Texas, had 17 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, a blocked shot and a steal while shooting 62 percent from the field in OBU’s 94-75 win over Friends.Sy, Freeman Collect Player of the Week HonorsSouthern Nazarene University’s Brent Freeman and Oklahoma City University’s Mariam Sy have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Basketball Players of the Week for the week of Dec. 5-11. Freeman, a 6-4 junior forward from Wichita, Kan., averaged 20.5 points, 13 rebounds and three assists in leading the Crimson Storm to wins over Mid-America Christian and Oklahoma Wesleyan. Castillo, a 5-10 junior forward from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, averaged 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3.3 steals and two assists in leading the Lady Bison to a 3-0 week. Castillo had 23 points and five steals against No. 20 Columbia College and closed the week with 24 points, 17 rebounds, five assists and four steals in a win over Lindenwood. Drew, a 6-4 senior guard from Jersey City, N.J., averaged 23 points, 8.5 rebounds, three steals and 2.5 assists in leading OCU past Arkansas Baptist and No. 19 Houston Baptist. Drew had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds against HBU.Eaton, Benson Named Players of the WeekOklahoma Baptist University’s Frank Benson and Tabetha Eaton have been named Sooner Athletic Conference Basketball Player of the Week honors, for the week of Nov. 14-20. Eaton, a 5-9 senior guard from Chickasha, scored 20 points and matched a career high with 10 rebounds and three steals to lead Oklahoma Baptist past Central Christian 77-50. Benson, a 6-5 senior forward from Houston, Texas, averaged 24.3 points and 9.3 rebounds in leading the Bison past Mid-America Christian (89-71), Central Oklahoma (80-75) and Arkansas Baptist (102-68). Benson, a 6-5 senior forward from Houston, Texas, averaged 38 points and 7.5 rebounds for the week. He scored 49 points in OBU’s win over East Central in a game in which he was one point and one free throw (21-26) shy of two school records. The Bison defeated ECU 85-79 and Central Bible 85-56. Ranked fourth in the nation and undefeated entering Tuesday’s conference semifinal match, Southern Nazarene is coached by Coach of the Year Mark Persson. SNU’s Dominique Nayaga, a junior from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, was named Offensive MVP with 13 goals and eight assists this season. David Eguren, an SNU sophomore from Houston, Texas, logged seven shutouts and a 0.7 goals allowed per game average in collecting Goalkeeper of the Year honors. Jeffrey Darkwah, a Crimson Storm freshman from Toronto, Ont., was named Newcomer of the Year, scoring 11 goals on the year. Gay, a junior goalkeeper from Woodward, Okla., recorded 200 minutes of shutout soccer as the Rangers defeated Southern Nazarene 2-0 and tied Oklahoma City 0-0 in double overtime. She had 12 saves against OCU and eight against Southern Nazarene. Nayaga, a sophomore forward from Ougadougou, Burkina Faso, had two goals and an assist in a 4-0 win over John Brown and a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win over USAO for a total of three goals and two assists in two games. Hunter, a freshman midfielder from Lubbock, Texas, scored one goal each in the Rangers’ wins over Bacone (3-1) and USAO (2-0) on seven shots for the week. Clark, a forward from Midwest City, had three goals and two assists in leading OC to a pair of wins. Clark had two goals in OC's 2-0 victory over sixth-ranked Southern Nazarene and followed that with a one goal, two assist performance in the Eagles' 5-0 rout of Bacone. Magallon, a freshman forward from Sao Paulo, Brazil, scored three goals in a 6-1 win over Sterling College after debuting for OBU with a two-goal performance in a 4-1 win over McPherson University. Ballmann, Zalenski Win Weekly HonorUniversity of Science & Arts of Oklahoma's Elliott Ballmann and Oklahoma Baptist University's Cara Zalenski are Sooner Athletic Conference Soccer Players of the Week for Sept. 12-18. Ballmann, a junior goal keeper from Washington, Mo., rolled off a pair of 90-minute shut outs against Bacone College and Friends University. Those were his second and third shutouts of the season. He had seven saves for the week and has allowed just one goal this season. Zalenski, a sophomore forward from Shawnee, scored three times and added an assist in OBU's 5-0 win over Southwestern College (Kan.), who entered with a 2-2-1 record. Zalenski leads OBU with five goals on the season after her two-goal performance against Bethany College. Silva, Wrinkle Share SAC HonorOklahoma Baptist's Thiago Silva and Oklahoma Christian's Rachel Wrinkle were SAC Players of the Week for Sept. 5-11. Wrinkle, a 5-8 sophomore midfielder from Eureka, Mo., had two goals and an assist in Oklahoma Christian's 5-0 win over Oklahoma Wesleyan. It was her first two goals of the season and OC's second consecutive victory. Silva, a native of Sao Paulo, Brazil, led the Bison to a 3-0 week, including a 3-0 win over No. 13 Grand View College. Hise Takes Helm at LCULubbock Christian University President Dr. L. Ken Jones announced recently that Sweetwater ISD’s Head Boys Basketball Coach, Paul Hise will become LCU Athletic Director effective August 1, 2004. Hise replaces LCU’s first full-time athletic director, Jimmy Moore, who resigned last month to take a job with Lubbock Independent School District.“This is a great opportunity for me, and I am very excited about being a part of this excellent institution,” states Hise. “It has always been a dream of mine to return to my alma mater and be involved in the direction of the athletic program. God has blessed LCU with an exceptional group of coaches, faculty and staff and I feel very fortunate to get the opportunity to work with them.
