Technology's Impact on the Automotive Industry

The automotive industry has been affected greatly by the technological change that the world has gone through. From car's being made by hand one at a time in the beginning. To car's being mass produced along an assembly line by robots. The automotive industry has been changed forever.

Not only has the way car's are produced been changed vastly, but the technology behind it has also seen numerous changes. For example, brakes started out as drums, which lead to disc brakes and in many cars you find out on the road today, they all have ABS which helps you greatly in wet and snowy conditions. Technology has now allowed computers to be put in the car that control the ABS systems and many of the other functions of the vehicle such as engine management, climate controls and cruse control.

Today it's very hard to find a car company that still make there car's by hand. Only a handfull of companies still do this and along with that comes a hefty price tag. In most factories, you find robots doing most of the welding, lifting and piecing together with humans only making sure everything is up to standard and nothing breaks down. Technology has basically taken over this industry and instead of providing many jobs to workers that build the cars. Workers have been put aside and cut down drastly for the robots and their technology to take over.
