~*Chapter 2*~

"Elise! Wait up!" My best friend Caitlin yelled across the hall.

"What?!" I asked, turning around.

"Oh my God!!! You'll never guess what I just heard!" she exclaimed excitedly.

"What?" I asked, used to the usual gossip she had to supply.

"Well.. I was talking to Katey, that talked to Josh, that talked to Ryan and he said that he likes Jen!!" she said, trying to keep her excitement under control.

"Are you kidding? You know that Nicole's had a crush on him since forever!" I said, twirling a piece of hair around my finger.

"Elise, believe it. And I've also heard that he's gonna ask Jen out to the Winter Ball today," she replied.

"Caitlin, I can't believe this! Nikki's gonna die when she finds THIS out! Let's just hope that Jen turns him down," I said, making my way over to the music room.

"Don't count on it, I've also heard from Isabelle Rizzo that Jen's got her eye on him too," Caitlin said.

"This is not good. Not good at all," I replied, shaking my head, "Leave it to Jen to use her beauty and steal her other sister's crush."

"Don't talk that way," Caitlin said.

"Well it's true! I mean, she is beautiful! She could get any guy just by simply snapping her fingers," I said, patting my favorite sweatshirt, that had "University of Virginia" written across the front.

"Elise, you're quints, you know you're just as beautiful as she is," she said, as we took our seats next to each other.

"Right. While I wear the baggy sweatshirts and jeans, she's wearing tight-fitted shirts and tight skirts. I'm sure that we look identical," I moaned.

"Well.. I also heard that Chris hasn't asked anyone to the Winter Ball.. maybe you should ask him," she whispered reminding me of my crush, as the teacher came into the room.

"Puh-lease. Like Chris would actually say yes?" I asked.

"He's not the kind of guy to turn girls down, it's a known fact. Everyone knows it," Caitlin said. I peered back at Chris. Why did I have to like him? I asked myself.

"Well.. that's the only good thing.. he won't turn me down," I said, as the teacher started the class.

"Jen!" I yelled, catching up to my sister on our way to lunch.

"What?" she asked, rolling her eyes.

"You like Ryan?" I blurted out.

"Who told you? You're usually last to find out the gossip," she said sourly.

"Listen, you know that Nikki likes him.. don't ruin it like this," I said, ignoring her snide remark.

"Who's gonna make me? Nikki can get someone else, but Ryan is mine," she said, storming off to catch up with her usual crowd.

"The mail's here!" Whitney announced, carrying in a huge pile.

"Mom, mom, dad, dad, dad, me, Jen, Jen, Jen, Nikki, Becky, Becky, Elise-- a little letter from may-I-say the University of Virginia?" she said, passing the mail out.

"Thanks," I said, grabbing at the letter she held in her hand.

"No problem, good luck," she said. I ripped it open as 4 pairs of eyes watched me. I stared at the words in front of me. SORRY, BUT THERE'S NO ROOM FOR YOU. I couldn't believe it, I had only applied to the University. I had no other choice, unless I either applied late to another college, or went to a local one. "So?" Whitney asked.

"I got in," I said, putting on a fake smile.

"You did! Congrats!" Becky exclaimed. I nodded,

"Thanks, I'm gonna go upstairs," I said.

"Don't you want to celebrate? I'll take ya for some ice cream," Nikki offered, unaware of the news of Ryan.

"That's really nice, but for now, I just want to be alone," I said, "Jen, why don't you tell everyone what I heard about you and Ryan?" Jen sat glaring at me, as everyone turned to her.

"What?" Nikki gasped, "Jen, what is she talking about?" I smirked at Jen, as I wandered up to my room. I didn't need to watch this show. I had to think about my own drama... the fact that my first choice, and only choice, to college turned me down. I lied down on my bed, as my fingers traced across the words. SORRY. As if it wasn't obvious you were being turned down from the first word. "I'm not stupid," I mumbled, as tears streamed down my face. I had to do something to cheer me up, and staring at the letter wasn't going to help me. I heard footsteps come running up the stairs, and I quickly wiped away the tears. I saw as Nikki angrily stormed into the room. "So you found out the hard way, huh?" I asked.

"Leave me alone," she growled, flopping onto her bed.

"Nik..I need your opinion. I need the honest truth, and what you think," I whispered, although no one else was around to hear me.

"What?! Why can't you leave me alone?!" she asked.

"Fine, I'll ask Whit, but since your here, I figured I should ask you before I lost courage," I said standing up.

"What is it?" she asked, rolling over. I told her my plan, as she listened quietly.

"Go for it," she whispered, when I was done.

"You think I've got a chance?" I asked.

"Oh yeah. Just.... keep your courage," she said, nodding towards the phone.

"Thanks," I said, picking it up and quickly dialing 7 simple numbers. I waited impatiently for someone to pick up.

"Hello?" I heard a male voice pick up, as my heart started beating fast.

"Hi, Chris? I was wondering if you had a date for the Winter Ball..." I said, my voice trailing off, as I smiled nervously at Nikki sitting across from me.

"Oh.... uh huh.....yeah, okay, bye," I said, faking a sad face.

"What?" Nikki asked.

"He said yes," I said, grinning from ear to ear.

"Didn't I tell you?" Caitlin said on the phone, "Easy as pie, huh?"

"No way," I replied, "I was so nervous he would turn me down."

"No one in their right mind would turn down a Namsell," she said.

"I'm sure.. UVA did.." I thought to myself.

"Let's just hope he doesn't get us all confused," I said out loud.

"I doubt he could.. you guys are all as different from each other as night and day," she reassured me.

"Thanks, what am I gonna wear though?" I asked.

"We can go to the mall on Friday?" she asked.

"Friday? Seems like ages away!" I complained.

"Don't worry, it will come soon enough," she said.

There ya have it guys! Chapter 2 of Mirror Images! Good luck Becky on the next one! I'm sure you'll do great!!
