Determined to get as many members to come, YFC-Chicago
pulled through with 50 brothers and sisters flying to the Emerald City for the 6th
Leader's Conference, July 21-23. The 50 will be staying until Sunday
afternoon. Another 20 will be flying on their own. Getting 70 brethren to fly to Seattle
was no easy task but after several successful large-scale events, interest piqued among
visitors and inactive members.
Some major activities include the GAW (Great Adventure Weekend) last June, the Adonai Prom
and LER (Leader's Enrichment Retreat) last March, the first youth camp at the University
of Ill. at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) last March-April, and the CFC Millennium Party last
December-January. A powerful Millennium Youth Camp
last November capped off the 20th century and shot the YFC-Midwest center into the new
millennium with 319
members strong.
A mission trip to Valparaiso, Indiana, is scheduled early August. Two campus-based areas--
Loyola University Chicago and UIUC-- opened, and a third, the University of Illinois at
Chicago, remains strong. There will be three separate campus-based camps this coming fall.
God's grace truly shone upon YFC-Chicago. Leadership continues to struggle but rise
steadfastly and nobly
against all odds.
"Even though we're still struggling with attendance, we don't let that
bring us down. We stay strong, because with God, nothing should bring you down. You should
always look on victory," said sister cluster head Geraldine Malicay. Next Story |
