Adema

This Californian five-piece rock band comes out swinging on their self-tiled debut.

Fronted by Mark Chavez, who is also the younger half-brother of Korn vocalist Jonathon Davis, Adema lashes out with a polished album that’s loaded with hard rock riffs and extra melodies, with a sprinkle of electronic effects adding to the song’s dimension like on the tracks “Skin,” “Pain Inside,” or “Close Friends.” Chavez vocals are impressive. He’s style is more melodic than that of his older half-brother, but flashes of each other do come through at certain moments. “Drowning” is a morbidly wicked tune that surrounds you with their guitars racing through your skull like a high-speed raging tornado.

The overall vibe throughout is a consistent pummeling of hard rock, without being so raw or aggressive, making any track on here a contender for radio airplay. They have a groove that comes across and really grabs your attention.

Adema is another album that can appeal to just about anyone. It’s got a little something to please everyone’s taste. Other highlights include “Blow It Away,” the first single “Giving In,” and “Freaking Out,” with its bass funk.
