She and my Daduck Charlie moved to Aklavik in the middle 40s because my aunty Maggie Jordan (nee Gordon) got burned from a dogpot, I guess she fell in and got 3rd degree burns to most of her body and the closest hospital was in Aklavik. Maggie stayed in the hospital the first two years alone, and sometimes family would travel to Aklavik to visit with her. After that Charlie and Thea moved to Aklavik permanently with most of their children, except for Walter. Walter stayed behind in Alaska and moved to Kaktovik to look after his Grandfather Tom Gordon and his Aaka Agiak until they passed on. After they passed on, Walter started walking to Aklavik with a couple of dogs, and I was told it took him two years to travel from Kaktovik to Aklavik. My mom Edith is the youngest child of Charlie and Thea and was the only one born in Canada. The rest of her older siblings were all born in Alaska, from Barrow to Kaktovik, maybe even Demarcation, Gordon or Shingle, YT.My Aaka Thea had a sister Jennie Nukapigak that we knew of, and we (my parents and I) just returned from our Alaskan vacation where we went to Nuiqsut to visit with some of Jennie's family earlier this summer. Then last week I find out from Ronald Brower that my Aaka Thea had another older sister named Ethel and Ronald gave me a list of her children's names as well. My Daduck Charlie was the oldest of Tom and Agiak's children, and Olive was the youngest. I've never gotten a chance to meet her in person but I know that she did come over to Canada a few times, and I have pictures of her, from her son Chris Anderson, who emails now and then.I had no idea that Olive lost her legs, or how badly her health had deteriorated...I am glad that she is not suffering anymore.
