Headlines:

The Pyro-Maniacs begin Recolinization of Ri Shoo Mountain.

The Pyro-Maniacs, led by Synergy, have decided to make the abandoned Mountain of Ri Shoo their home and base of operations.

Synergy, a Ri Shoo native, left her home mountain three months ago to explore the realm. After visits to Broppsfar and other mountains near the core, she felt it was time to return home. During her travels Ri Shoo slowly lost residents. While visiting other mountains Synergy began recruiting members into her climbing team, the Pyro-Maniacs (Please see our feature interview with Synergy below). Recently, the majority of the Pyro-Maniacs decided to migrate to Ri Shoo in an effort to begin attracting more wizards and make it a haven safe from the politics and random violence found on other mountains.

The members of the Pyro-Maniacs will from a core of "Elders" that will guide the affairs of the mountain and enforce the "Meta-Rules" of Pyroto. Currently the members of the Pyro-Maniacs are: Synergy, Lord Morpheus, darkfox, Indiana (Paz Clafi), Atypical_Lemur, and Bones (Broppsfar), and Mr_Tin.

Any wizards who would like to join the colonization effort should Contact a member of the Pyro-Maniacs. E-mail can be directed to Atypical_Lemur (atypical_lemur@hotmail.com) and will be forwarded to the appropriate party, please include the subject line "colonize Ri Shoo" in your message. The Reporter will bring more information on the council of elders once plans are finalized.

The Plains -- Open for Business.

Recently you may have noticed that Pyroto has a new look and the long awaited addition known as the Plains has been launched as part of the changes called "Phase II."

Due to the rules regarding "Zombie Wizards" this reporter has not yet tried to make it all the way across the plains. Most wizards have liked the new look, but there are some who point out the problems in it. Wizards I spoke to stated that they felt the text was too small in the spell list, raising the chances that someone might accidentally cast the wrong spell. Others have stated that the new color scheme gives them headaches.

Tell us what you think, send your thoughts on the new look to Atypical_Lemur (atypical_lemur@hotmail.com) and your comments might appear in the next issue when we launch the feedback section. Please be sure to include your: Wizard Name, Robe Color, and home mountain so we may give you credit.

Meet your Elders:

This week the Reporter speaks with Synergy, leader of the Pyro-Maniacs Climbing Team.

Reporter: You were away from Ri Shoo for about three months, what made you want to return?
Synergy: I've always liked the mountain at which I first began climbing. Once upon a time I even looked into the meaning of Ri Shoo. The name is Le Chee in English (thanks to the Pyrotolex, pyrotolex.net) and it's a small town in Arizona whose name is Indian in origin. There are various Indian meanings for it that are a little convoluted for me. :) But I digress. I was also interested in the idea of beginning a new chapter on Pyroto by beginning the colonization of a mountain and prove that there is life away from the so-called center of the Land.
Reporter: Were you surprised to find your home mountain a "Ghost Town" on your return?
Synergy: Very. I'd seen new wizards streaming into Broppsfar and Paz Clafi and I thought that the same thing was happening on Ri Shoo. My main thought had been to return to Ri Shoo and make sure that there was someone there to help out any newbies.
Reporter: What steps do you think will be needed to make Ri Shoo appealing to White wizards
Synergy: No one is attracted to a ghost town. I think the other mountains have been appealing so far because they have so many people and there's so many interesting things going on there. Ri Shoo needs the backbone of old hands and, of course, plenty of fun. :)
Reporter: Can you tell us some about the Council of Elders on Ri Shoo that the Pyro-Maniacs have created?
Synergy: So far we've structured the Council based on those on other highly populated mountains. To make sure that things don't get out of hand and to enforce the meta-rules and Netiquette rules, Elders have volunteered to keep an eye on different Ri Shoo bands. So far Grey, Saffron, Yellow, and either Green or Blue have been called.
Reporter: We can look to the politics of Pyroto Mountain and others to see a great deal of bickering among Wizards, how do you hope to avoid this on Ri Shoo?
Synergy: There is no sure thing. Right now we can kind of hand-pick who's coming over, but once things get going it's out of our hands. I'd say the best way to always avoid problems is for those that were hand-picked set some sort of good example so problems may be kept to a minimum.
Reporter: Tell us more about the Pyro-Maniacs.
Synergy: The Pyro-Maniacs consist of 8 team members so far. We've got a little bit of everything across the Bands. Very representative of most mountains, Robe-wise. Wizards were "born" on Paz Clafi, Broppsfar, Pyroto, Shipheli (now being colonized by soulrift & friends), and I'm the lone native Ri Shooan. At the moment, only myself and one other is female. We're looking for a few good women. ;)
Reporter: What do you look for in a new member?
Synergy: Well, I don't know about the others, but when I've put out the word that we're looking for new team members I've asked what I like to call my 20 questions. It gives me an idea of the type of person s/he is and how good (read: addicted) they are. I also look into them. I read the bands, comb the logs and generally verify the information they give me regarding their status and habits on Pyroto. This is what I've asked in the past:

  • What's your Home Mtn?
  • What's your current/approx. Level?
  • How long have you been playing?
  • How often per day and for how long do you logon?
  • Do you have a list of questions already?
  • Have you ever been on a team before?
  • Male or female? Age?
  • Occupation?

Reporter: What should a Wizard do if interested in joining the Pyro-Maniacs?
Synergy: Wizards are always welcome to ask about joining. They can Contact me or Lord Morpheus and let us know and we'll take it from there.
Reporter: One last thing, where do you see Ri Shoo and the Pyro-Maniacs in six months, a year?
Synergy: Well, hopefully we'll be able to get enough people interested in the mountain so that it will be much more populated. I look forward to not having enough time to read all the bands on Ri Shoo! We've yet to decide on a particular theme or something like that by which we can be known such as Paz Clafi being known as the Cliffs of Peace, but we're working on it. I hear the vultures are descending and someone has glimpsed some Golden Arches through the trees and elsewhere expensive specially-blended coffees have been scented on the wind, so I'd say we just might be well on our way. ;) Also, as a final note, I'd like to thank Wizard Subotai (Paz Clafi) (Please see
Feedback letter from Subotai (Paz Clafi) in issue 5810) for getting me into this game and Wizard soulrift (Shipheli) for helping me out so much when I was gallivanting around the Land.
Reporter: Thank you for your time, and may TSOTL guide you as you climb.
Synergy: Always happy to oblige. Happy climbing!

Submit your own questionQuestion of the Week:

This week the Reporter asks: What is the significance of the new addition to Pyroto, "the Plains," and how will it affect my life on Ri Shoo?

After many hours of research in the "Phase II: The Plains" Ether, it seems for the time being there will be very little change to those of us already on a mountain. About 5795 a new spell showed up on the roster, "Plains." In theory, this spell is to allow your wizard to travel down to the Plains, similar to the teleport spell. However, there have been some reports of problems with the new spell, so I advise you not to use it until all the bugs have been worked out. Furthermore, there has not been a scroll added to explain the use of this spell, nor has it been added to the spells list as of yet. So, except for the new look, established wizards should see little difference in the way Pyroto works at this time.

New wizards, however, will be greeted by the plains when they first come to visit Pyroto. Wizards on the Plains are in have White colored robes. After answering one hundred trivia questions these new wizards "graduate" to a mountain. Reports are conflicting at this time as to if a wizard chooses the mountain he graduates to, or if he is randomly placed on a mountain by TSOTL as was done so in the past. Most of the active mountains (Ri Shoo included) have created zero level Ether channels dedicated to recruiting the new White wizards to their mountains. White wizards have access to Ether channels set at level zero.

For more information visit the following Ether channels: Phase II: The Plains, Phase III: The Caverns, Announcements, & The Ri Shoo Colonization Channel.
