August/September 2003 Los Angeles Railroad Heritage Foundation The Los Angeles Railroad Heritage Foundation is a relative newcomer on scene to railroad preservation. Formed several years ago by its current director and founder Josef Lesser, it has become a very dynamic and fast-growing group that is quickly rising to become a leader in railroad history and preservation. The Foundation currently operates several satellite exhibits featuring O-scale models of trains of California's past and present railroad heritage. The current locations of these exhibits are Philippe's French Dip Restaurant in Downtown LA near Union Station, the Original Pantry, and the Pasadena Museum of History, with other exhibits planned in the near future. An eventual goal of the Foundation is to have an operating model railroad exhibit showcasing California's rich railroad heritage within the grounds of Los Angeles Union Station The LARHF website is very well designed and interactive. It has some neat flash animation on the home page featuring historical photos of California trains. I highly recommend checking out their featured articles, especially the recent photoessay on the completion of the new Metro Gold Line. Currently, the Foundation is having and active membership drive, and welcomes any and all who are interested in joining. The group holds several events throughout the year when they change the displays and exhibits at their various locations. I have been involved with the Foundation for about two years now, and I have found it to be a highly rewarding and enriching experience.
