It's Misato Katsuragi!!
Where do we begin? Misato Katsuragi is Shinji's roommate and overseer. She is disorganised, untidy and can't cook to save her life. She took in Shinji because he was going to live by himself, and I feel tht thinks of him as a kind of cousin, family. She wanders out of her room every morning in t-shirt-vest and shorts with a towel draped round her neck, yawning hugely. She claims that starting the day with a can of beer is the best way to start any day. When Shinji first moved in he was shocked and horrified by the mess in her house. All she has in her freezer is ice, beer and ready meals. She also has another freezer, but that is to hold her other roommate - Penpen, a Hot Springs Penguin. Unfortunately for Shinji he only met Penpen when he was about to go into the bathroom and Penpen was coming out. The result was hightly amusing for Misato and highly embarrassing for Shinji...
Misato gives the orders to Shinji when he is fighting in his Eva, but sometimes, like all fourteen year old boys, he doesn't listen. The most notable time was when he almost landed on Toji and Kensuke and took them into the entry plug with him. Afterwards, Misato hit him and he ran away. Yet she is like family, because she was truly worried and rather sorry about what she did, and gave him the choice: stay with her or go home. He chose to stay.
Misato could not find her way round a cardboard box. On the first episode, she was supposed to take Shinji to the Eva, but they wandered around lost for ages until Ritsuko turned up and rescued them. She also teases Shinji unmercifully, at one point saying "You know, you're not as cute as I thought you'd be..." his only response was "Well, you're not as mature as I thought you'd be." He sorely regretted that comment, and also got a typical view of Misato's driving.
Misato is convinced that Shinji is in love with Rei Ayanami, his co-pilot, and at one point sends him to take her new admittance card. Also, she doesn't know quite how rude and childish Asuka Souryu is, thinking her to be polite and pleasant. Only the pilots know how Asuka really is.
Also, she appears to dislike Ryouji Kaji a lot, to the point of belting him round the face a fair few times in Eva Manga 04, despite the fact the second time she had nearly leapt into his arms after Asuka and Shinji beat the two Angels. She was stuck in a lift with him in Evangelion video 06, and at the end was kneeling on his shoulders in an attempt to open the hatch of the ceiling. She couldn't bear to be stuck with him, but had to grin and bear it.
She understands how Shinji feels about his father more that you forst think at the start of the videos. Her father was never there for her as a child, peferring to spend time with his experiments than with her. She hated him and laughed in his face when eher mother divorced him - she hated him because she didn't like hearing her mother cry herself to sleep every night. But when the Second Impact occurred her father died to save her, carrying her to a lifepod and putting her in it; he preferred to save his daughter rather than himself. This is why Misato works for Nerv: she feels that by defying and destroying the Angels, she will understand why her father died for her. She hates him for what he did, yet loves him for saving her. It is this conflict that Shinji also has with Gendou that she understands, because she feels it also.
