Key (whose real name is Tokiko Mima) is in search for 30,000 friends. She believes that if she reaches her goal, she can become human. Key leaves her home after her granfather's death and heads to Tokyo to fulfill her dream.

| Key's classmate from Junior High and her only friend when she was a child. When Sakura finds Key in Tokyo, she allows Key to stay in her home for as long as she wants. She does her best to help Key in every way possible. Sakura holds two jobs, dilvering pizzas and working at Electric Bob, a video rental store. She has a crush on Shuichi Tataki. |

| He created Key. One day, he mysteriously dies. However, he left a cassette behind telling Key that she needed to make 30,000 friends. Key needs "friends that would care about you, laugh and cry with you, touch your very humanity " so she can have enough power to become human. He worked on the PPOR's for Ajo, but his real work went into Key. |

Shuichi Tataki

| President of Miho Utsuse's fan club. He visits the rental store often to rent music videos. When he finds out about Key, he is interested and wants to find out more about her. |

Tomoyo Wakagi

| He is Key's body gaurd and looks after her wherever she goes. He is usually hiding in the shadows and seems to come out of no where when Key is in trouble. Wakagi would risk his life to protect Key. |

| Also known as Priest Snake-Eye, he is the leader of a religious group. He sees Key display her power and believes she has god like powers. |

Hikaru Tsurugi

| A famous prodigy in the entertainment industy. Decides to train Key as an idol singer when he notices she put that she is a robot in her resume. |

Miho Utsuse
|
| Became an idol at the age of 13 and has sold one best selling record after another. Almost nothing is known about her private life, not even by the president of her fan club. |

Jinsaku Ajo
|
| Leader of Ajo industries, one of the world's leading heavy industry companies. He is also the head of "Mino's," the production company that manages rock singer Miho Utsuse. He believes that Key possesses her grandfather's secrets for creating the perfect humanoid. He is anxious to apply those secrets to his covert PPOR development project. |

| Created by Murao Mima for Ajo. Ajo is trying to perfect these and sell them as military weapons. When in public, they are usualy clothed in trench coats to help disguise them. |
