Movie:Spirited Away
Director and Character Design:Hayao Miyazaki
Spirited Away is the highest grossing film in Japanese box office history. It is the only
animated feature to win the Golden Bear Award in the Berlin film festival.Miyazaki's
Spirited Away is truly an animated masterpiece. Miyazaki's dislike for the type
of entertainment offered to adolescent girls led him to create movies such as
My Neighbor Totoro, Laputa: Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Deliver Service. The Walt Disney Studio
will release a newly created English version of the film.
The movie is about a ten year-old girl name Chihiro(voiced by Daveigh Chase, Lilo
in Disney's Lilo and Stitch.) who is plunged into a fantasy world.Trapped in a resort
for fanstasy gods, Chihiro meets a boy named Haku(Jason Marsden)who acts as
her guide. Chihiro gets a job from Yubaba(Suzanne Pleshette)the grasping with who runs
the spa. Chihiro must now go on a to help others retain their freedom in a series of
fantastic advetures. Chihiro enters Yubaba's world as a petulant, whiny girl and leaves changed.
Spirited Awayis a true coming of age story of an adolescent girl.Every frame of the movie is
filled with color, light, and beauty. All of Miyazaki's films pay loving attention
to the scenery. The animation in Spirited Away is fuller and more fluid than
most anime, the characters movements really reveal their personalities. No director
is more admired by American animators than Hayao Miyazaki.
The film will be relesed in theaters on September, 20, 2002 in select theaters.
