Born on Mars, Spike is a former member of the Red Dragon Crime Syndicate. There, he served under Mao Yenrai for at least seven years, who was like a father to him. His dear, close friend was a man named Vicious. But then came Julia...

One night, after being shot and left bleeding in an alley, Spike was saved by a young woman named Juila, who was Vicious' lover. But Spike and Julia got to close, as both began to realize they were meant for each other. Spike decided he wanted to leave the Syndicate and be with Julia...but you don't just quit a Crime Syndicate.

First, he faked his own death, then left Julia a note to meet him at the graveyard. But Vicious caught on. He caught Julia at her apartment and held a gun to her head, giving her three options: He kills Spike, she kills Spike, or she kills herself. Julia denied everything and eventually wound up saving herself, though she lost Spike in the process.

Three years later, he met a man named Jet Black. After Jet purchased an old fishing boat which they called the Bebop, the two set off to make big money as bounty hunters, or "old fashioned cowboys" as Spike calls them. Though he has never told anyone about his involvement with Vicious, he continued to search desperatly for Julia.

Spike is, for all practical purposes, smart when it comes to common sense. However, when you have to come down to being a genius, Spike is your last choice, seeing as how he generally refers to all things as "Well, my starship works when I kick it, so..."

After several years as a bounty hunter, Spike finally found Julia, though she was killed by Vicious' men shortly afterwards. Finally having nothing to live for, Spike launched a last-ditch attack against Vicious at the Red Dragon Headquarters. He eventually defeated Vicious, though it cost him his life.

KEY SPIKE SPIEGAL EPISODES:

Session 1: "Asteroid Blues"-->First appearance of Spike Spiegal.

Session 5: "Ballad of the Fallen Angels"-->Spike and Vicious' rivalry revealed.

Session 12: "Jupitar Jazz, Pt. 1"-->Vicious and Spike's second confrontation

Session 13: "Jupitar Jazz, Pt. 2"-->Spike's connection to Julia revealed.

Session 25: "Real Folk Blues, Pt. 1"-->Spike finds Julia

Session 26: "Real Folk Blues, Pt. 2"-->Spike dies after final battle with Vicious.

DEFINING MOMENT:

After finding Julia, only to watch her shot by Vicious' men, Spike loads up on weapons and storms Vicious' headquarters. The two finally meet up, Spike badly injured and with only his gun, Vicious with his sword. The two fight and Vicious is killed. Spike is able to make it back downstairs and inform everyone that Vicious is dead, only to die on the steps of the lobby. (Session 26; "The Real Folk Blues: Part 2")
