 Cloud was once a first-class SOLDIER...or at least he claims to be. In reality, though, he was nothing but a low-ranking guard who merely "stole" Zack's identity. His past is somewhat cloudy as he fell victim to one of Hojo's experiments, injected with Jenova cells yet still considered a "failure." Still, though, like all the other successes of that experiment, Cloud finds himself mysteriously drawn towards Sephiroth for the Reunion.

 Young, beautiful, and somewhat mysterious, Aeris met Cloud while selling flowers on the streets of Midgar. She decided to join him soon after. Her unusual abilities allow her to heal the party, but she seems more interested in the deepening love triangle between herself, Cloud and Tifa.
