Talked to Kadi on messenger tonight, webcams on. Good enough for me.

Dominic Xavier

She says he weighed in at a whopping 4 lbs, 7 oz and 18 inches long. He was 6 weeks early, born on April 14th. Such doll on the webcam!!! I got to see Armani too and she looks great. I really miss that kid. Kadi looks good too, has lost 40 lbs. Must be nice.

Today was out nephew Aaron's college graduation. He double majored in mathematics and computer science. We're so proud of you Aaron!!!

OK, there always has to be some bad to go with the good. Scott's friend Cole, who he was going to be sharing an apartment with, was in a terrible accident yesterday while taking his sister to see Star Wars. Top to bottom, this is what they have discovered so far. He is awake and coherent today, doesn't remember the accident of course. He has a concussion. He was cut through his cheek (to the point of seeing his teeth) and his chin. They discovered when he started asking questions this morning that his jaw is broken, this evening they are saying that his cheek and jaw are shattered and they have to wait for the swelling to go down before they can do anything about it as far as reconstruction goes. His collarbone is broken, they knew that last night. Since his whole side and arm are bruised black it's a safe bet that his arm and ribs are broken too. His spleen was punctured and they said last night that it should be fine but tonight they are giving him transfusions because his hemoglobin keeps dropping. His hip and pelvis are broken. He had two compound fractures in his femur. They were planning to fly him to Dallas for surgery on his leg because there was no one here to do the surgery but his girlfriend's dad ended up doing the surgery. A length of the bone was too contaminated to use so he has a rod in his leg. They said he will be able to start walking in 3-6 months. The had to put rods in a couple of his fingers too. Below his femur we haven't heard anything yet. They haven't mentioned anything about his teeth yet but I'm sure that will be coming. When he saw the truck pull out in front of them he swerved to keep his sister's side of the car from getting hit, she's 8 years old. She has some bruises on her face from the windshield but otherwise is alright physically. She's blaming herself though since he was taking her to the movies. The guy that hit him was a vet that owns an equine clinic and he & his wife (a RN) were pulling out of the clinic when they hit. There is a blind spot due to construction on the highway. His sister called their dad from the cell phone and he was there within 2 minutes of the accident. They had to use the jaws-of-life to get him out then flew him to the hospital. My boys just got back from visiting him, it didn't break his sense of humor. The vet has been there throughout and says he is paying for everything. Really puts things in perspective.

Richard may or may not be a father. I'll post some congrats once some concrete proof and details come in. Personally I believe he's a dad but without anything legal to prove it I'll withhold feeling anything toward the baby until we know more.

Ed Bolfing This week we are saying goodbye to an old family friend, Ed Bolfing. My dad and Ed grew up together. When I was a kid and we would come to Texas on vacation we would always make several visits to the Bolfing Food Store. That is how I came to know Ed and his brothers, Pat & Gerald, my whole life. When we were married we had gone to the store for food and Ed told us to follow him then gave me a large cast iron skillet. He said all brides should have one. LOL Years later, after the store was long gone, Ed & Pat were co-owners of the pawn shop that was across the street from our house. That is how David and the boys came to know him. Once Pat passed away Ed continued to run the pawn shop with Pat's widow (and our neighbor) Jo Ann. Ed was always one of those people that you are so used to seeing around and you just take for granted will always be there, ya know? This is hitting me pretty hard but I think it's because it hits a little too close to home.
We're really going to miss you Ed.
