I am constantly forgetting to put this in reverse order. If it seems like it's been awhile since it's been updated, please scroll down to see if I messed up again :) 7-26-02 If you've been to Ludlow's Place at all in the past week or so you will have noticed the new look, and the shameless self promotion. I've decided to go for a more professional look on at least the splash page. I woke up one morning with a sudden understanding of things that made no sense previously, this happens to me from time to time, and I thought I'd make sweeping changes. But, with a 56k modem sweeping changes can take time. (Plus I'm working on multiple projects at the same time.) I'm planning to add ecards to my site. Everyone and their mother have added ecards and I hadn't planned on mine being any different, but now I am getting ideas for original designs, so perhaps they will be different after all. So far I have only thought of three designs and haven't attempted the drawing aspect, let alone meeting the size requirements that are needed for the free card server that I'd like to try. But they would incorporate my, how would you say it.... unique (?) personality. I've added a right hand menu to the main page, which is run by javascript, so I'm hoping that you're not having too much trouble with it. (It won't function properly until the page is completely loaded.) In the "Writings" section I have added spaces for "Reviews" & "Opinions". I had planned to link to some online music and movie reviews that my sons have written, but they aren't doing those any more. In the "Opinions" section I thought I may link to some friends blogs. [If you would like yours added, email me.] Now I'm not too sure what I will do. I may add book reviews. If you have something you'd like me to add, go for it. I'm game. I'm also thinking of adding a scrolling banner to introduce my friends via their sites, weekly or monthly, and would love some feedback on the idea. Last but not least I'm considering adding a couple of simple games, like Blackjack and Pong. (Remember the Pong days at the pizza parlor Rose?) OK, I'm done with my nebulizer so I can quit typing now : ) 7-4-02 We did our annual 4th on the Brazos. It was different this year. There were a lot less boats on the river and a lot less people on the bridges. And the boats were spread out behind the two main bridges this year that we are all normally crowded under for the fireworks. I know the city put on a much more elaborate celebration, or at least from what I've read. Like always everything takes place downtown where the parking is inadequate. We gave up on that years ago when the kids were younger. There was heightened security, but if there had been terrorists out the cops would have been so pre-occupied with all of the drunks and people who brought illegal fireworks and showed us the reason they became illegal first hand. We already had a close call over Memorial Day weekend when an idiot waked the pontoon boat and someone washed overboard. They were out in force tonight too. And the parents of some of the kids out there tonight... I don't even want to think about it. Standing right there while their kids were shooting Roman candles towards the boats and towards people standing on the bridge! We've spent 6 or 7 years on the river now watching the fireworks but this was the first time anyone was that stupid. Scott got hit in the butt with a bottle rocket!!! Once we got back to where we docked in, which is sweet little secluded dock that not too many people seem to know about except avid fisherman, the boys and I left to come home since Waco did put on a very good show this year, but that meant breathing quite a bit of smoke and I needed to get home. Would someone PLEASE email me next year and remind me to take a flashlight along? Last year I stepped in fireants between the boat and the car. I missed them this year, but only because my boys have good eyesight and were guiding me. LOL David and my dad loaded the boat onto the trailer and it took a long time for them to get home. Turns out some drunk came up trying to start a fight with David as they were docking in. His buddies were trying to call him off but he was determinded. He even tried to take a couple of swings, David said it was pretty laughable. It would have been funny though if we had still been there and the boys had gone strolling up to see what was going on. Scott's about 6'5" tall and 270 lbs., Josh is a little smaller at 6'4" and 220 lbs. Craiger is only 5'10" and 190 lbs., but he is only 13 years old too ; ) But wouldn't they have made an imposing sight? LOL I'm not sure if they can look mean, but then again, I'm used to looking at them. So even though it sounds like I'm griping, I'm really not. It was a pleasant evening. The temperature was nice. Amazingly enough there were no mosquitos, and we were getting a kick out of all of the people who were actually swimming in the river. Our section of the Brazos is pretty still and not what you'd really want to be swimming in, although I'm guilty of doing just that a couple of 4th's ago myself. But the fish-finder was showing several gars and you couldn't have paid any of us to get near that water. Oh, and before I go... people are pigs. Trash cans are easy to find in a public park. Trash bags are not that hard to carry with you, just carry a plastic grocery sack. Just keep it off the ground and out of the water already. Sheesh! Oh hey, the birdhouse above is a tube made by Karren at Karren Kountry 7-2-02 BENIGN!!!
