November 6th: "Sacred Heart" Added To
"Universe" The
song "Sacred Heart" has been added to the tracklisting of
"Just Another Universe", in place of "Nobody Knows". This
explains why "Sacred Heart" will not be appearing on the new
Lotus album. "Nobody Knows" will remain
unreleased.
November 5th: "Novella" - New
Album Robert
Crosbie has revealed the title of the ninth Lotus
album, "Novella", and has confirmed it will be an acoustic
album featuring mostly just guitar and vocals. Titles of new
songs are rumoured to include "Valentine's Wish", "She Just
Dosen't Love You Anymore", and the title track. The
album will also feature "Two Hearts, Too Far" but not
"Sacred Heart" as previously mentioned. "Novella" will
feature between 12 - 14 songs and will probably be slightly
shorter than other Lotus albums, and certainly much
more intimate.
October 11th: New Songs On The
Way Robert has found the break from recording
has opened the floodgates for inspiration. "I think I really
needed the break," he says. I didn't even play the guitar
for around 3 weeks. As soon as I picked it up new songs came
right away." There is also a possiblity that the 9th Lotus
album could be an acoustic album. "I really like the Mark
Kozelek solo records," Rob says. "I think I'd like to do
something similar, buit with my own songs. Just one or two
guitars and some embellishments. That's the style I'm
writing at the moment". These new songs have working titles
such as "True Survivor" and "Didn't Grow Enough".
August 10th: Recording
Break Robert is now taking a long break from
recording, to concentrate on writing his ninth album. "I
want to get back to the way I wrote them before", he says.
""Universe" was very much written on the spot and though it
developed well it would've been good to spend more time on
lyrics and arrangements. I want to get back to singing my
ideas into a tape recorder again". Such is his commitment to
his writing that he has dismantled his home studio to focus
totally on penning the all-important 14 songs that will
make up the new album. New songs will be reported on this
page. In other news, the acoustic gig is not taking place on
the 11th as reported. Another date should be set
soon.
July 4th: Acoustic
Gig Robert
and Chris are due to play an acoustic gig in Whelan's,
Dublin, on the 11th August supporting Pierce Turner. This
has not yet been confirmed but should be soon. Watch this
space for more details.
June 19th: Robert Sings
Live Last Saturday night Robert performed an
impromptu, unannounced gig in the Dame Tavern pub in Dublin.
He came on around 12pm and played a set of covers, including
"How Will I Know?", "Wonderwall", "Twist & Shout",
"Dancing In The Moonlight", "Wicked Game", and a few U2
tracks. By all accounts he went down a storm. It is not
known if this will become a regular occurance (this is the
second time he has played the venue), but it might be
wise to pass by the Dame Tavern on a Saturday night just in
case!
May 31st: Lotus
Reform Lotus have
finally reformed with a new line up! Robert has recruited
Chris Barnard to play bass and Paul Byrne to play drums.
Chris hails from the UK and has previously played with
Atomica for the last few years. Paul is, of course, the man
who "discovered" Lotus and played drums on the early demos.
The new line up plan to begin rehearsals soon; at the moment
Rob is putting together a list of songs to play. The plan is
to play some small gigs, on a very casual basis. Also
Robert plans to play songs from all the albums, not just
one. This should lead to some great gigs! More news will be
posted
soon.
May 9th: "The Band"
Profile Updated The Band page
has finally been updated with a new Lotus story and details on the
style and development of the albums. This page was written
by site contributor Tanya
Mastin.
April 19th: New
Section on Site - Singles There is a new
section on the site devoted to the Lotus singles. This page
lists all singles, b-sides, and CD artwork. Click here to check it
out.
March 27th: New Track Listing For "Universe" The tracklisting for "Just Another Universe" has been juggled around a bit to include the new songs recorded recently. Also updated is the Albums Page, which now features the bonus tracks for each of the 8 albums.
March 20th: Some Of His Best
Work Recently Robert
has been very busy in the
studio, recording many new tracks in the last few months. This
has led to some of his best recorded work to date; in
particular "She' So Beautiful", the remake of "Lions", new
song "Glass", the cover of "Hot Coals", and some worthwhile
experiments like "Olympic" (all detailed on the 2001 page). These new songs sound
fantastic, and the quality of recording and production is
much higher than it has ever been. Watch this space - Robert
is at the peak of his creative powers.
February 15th: Album Number 9
to be Covers? It has been suggested that the
ninth Lotus album is to be an album of cover versions. Lotus
have covered many songs in the past, but an entire album of
non-originals would be a very interesting prospect. Possible
songs could include "Wicked Game" by Chris Issak, and "How
Will I Know", as previously recorded. Meanwhile, Robert
attended the Evan Dando show in Whelan's last night - a
great gig by all accounts!
February 14th 2001: New
Article Over
the years, Robert has made music with various different
people, as Lotus, and as other bands. In a new
interview, Robert traces the history of his work with these
fellow musicians. Click here to
read the article.
January 11th 2001: Happy New
Year! A new year, and already a new recording:
"In The Night" is a new song which takes Lotus in a new
direction. Still being recorded at this date, it features
Robert's new bass guitar. "The song is somewhat influenced
by "If You Wear That Velvet Dress" by U2 - I wanted to get
the same kind of feel. I'm just trying to figure out what
kind of effects to use on the track! Its very good though;
not a single but a great album song." The track is detailed
on the new 2001
page.
