Captain of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch. He is upright and honest. He was brought up in The Shades, the poorest and most dangerous part of Morpork. He is skinny, unshaven and smokes cigars. He is synical, but sometimes soft-hearted. He dislikes undead, assassins, trolls and dwarfs, but often defends them, because he can't dislike them if they are dead.
Vimes is married to lady Sybil Ramkin.
