Campaign Description: Tabula Rasa is a superheroic campaign featuring six lost souls. These individuals have an appearance, a personality, but absolutely no clue as to who they are, or why they cannot remember anything about themselves.

Importance of the Player Characters: Very Important. While there are other heroes in the world, the player characters are effectively central to everything in this campaign. It’s diffucult to be important when you can’t remember who you are, but as players learn more about their characters, the characters role in the world around them will become more important. There will occasionally be crossovers with characters or NPC’s from other campaigns.

World Description: The Global Guardians Universe is a four-color comic book world full of larger than life characters. Technology is more advanced that the real world, and magic is real. Aliens and creatures of legend roam the earth.

The Story So Far: …is completely unknown to the players. There is a story – a story that will shock and amaze both the players and the characters once they discover the answers they seek.

Local Relations: The law is fairly clear as to the treatment of amnesiacs. You institutionalize them in state care until they remember or you can find somebody to claim them. But of course, that assumes somebody comes to claim them, and without memory, how do you know this person’s motives?

Morality: Tabula Rasa is not a four-color campaign, and for the most part the morality of the campaign will vary. There will be some crossover between good and evil, some confusion as the characters sort themselves out, and things will rarely be black and white. Characters will find themselves making difficult decisions. Whether or not they choose to be good guys or bad guys is ultimately up to them, and both paths will have rewards and consequences.

Realism: Strong, and the characters will be expected to cope. In line with the game’s story, the players will have to make efforts at decision making in a vacuum. Action sequences will be cinematic and descriptive. Characters won't die unless they show themselves to be too stupid to live or are going out in a blaze of glory. How you role-play the character will do a great deal to determine the realism of the game, so please put some soul into your characters.

Outlook: Positive, but with lots of tension and some dark moments. The team can eventually find out who they are and what happened to them, but it will take work and time.

Seriousness: The game is going to be as serious as a heart attack, and the seriousness of the storylines will reflect this. At times it will seem that the entire world is hunting them. This does not mean that there is no room for humor. Witty repartee, creative use of powers, and the way you play should provide plenty of humor in the midst of even the direst situation.

Continuity: The game will be entirely serial, and the occasional flashback will occur when situations dictate. Player actions in one scenario will have effects on later scenarios, and continuity will be enforced. Adventures will move linearly through time, NPC’s will remember who you are and what you did to them, and the hopefully the press never finds out that you exist.

Building a Character for Tabula Rasa

WARNING NOTE: THIS WILL NOT BE YOUR TYPICAL CAMPAIGN. PLAYERS WILL BE GIVEN POWERS AND SKILLS FROM THE GM. PLAYERS WILL DISCOVER THEM ALONG THE ROAD IN THE CAMPAIGN. IF YOU CANNOT HANDLE PLAYING A CHARACTER WHERE YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER YOUR CHARACTER’S POWERS AND SKILLS, DO NOT SUBMIT FOR THIS GAME. THE INTENTION IS TO PRESENT A SERIOUS ROLE-PLAYING CHALLENGE FOR SERIOUS ROLE PLAYERS.

The most important thing to remember when building a character for this campaign is this: the characters have no idea who they are. This, of course, will make writing a background impossible.

Submissions should include the following: Nationality, hair color, eye color, apparent age, height, weight, as detailed a physical description as possible, and as detailed a personality as you can describe without knowing anything about yourself. I know it’s a serious writing challenge, but give it your best shot

All initial Tabula Rasa characters will have their sheets created by the GM, and will follow the guidelines below. Characters who join the campaign later on, if any, will also follow these guidelines and will design their own character sheets.

  • Starting Points: 200
  • Maximum Disadvantages: 150
  • Maximum Points From One Category of Disadvantage: 50
  • Maximum Active Points for Any One Power: 75
