ISSUE THREE,
8/1/99 BOTCON'99 Alright! I got back
from my BotCon extravaganza vacation about a week ago. I
apologize to all the people whose orders got delay due to my
month long absence. Some people might think that I'm
primarily a dealer but the truth is that I have always been
and always be primarily a collector. Therefore I go to
BotCon not to sell stuff and make the big bucks so much as
to run into old friends, meet people I've talked to but
never seen, get the dirt on the new TF line-up and to buy me
some freaken' Transformers!! Yeah baby! BEAST
MACHINES Anyway, I had a
great time at the convention. I tried to focus much more on
the having fun part of BotCon than the feeding frenzy
marthon. That's why I was rarely seen at my own table. I've
got to thank those lovely folks at the next table for
watching and selling my stuff for me. This year I did make
it to the Hasbro/Alliance panel. Not only did I see the new
"Beast Machines" pilot but I got to see it TWICE! As a
filmmaker I have to commend these folks for making one
thrilling ride. The look of the show was on the level of
BladeRunner- dark, gritty film noir style as well. Also mix
in some Terminator- explosions and a desperate struggle for
survival. I don't know if the rest of the series will be on
the same level but what I saw looked great. BOTCON TOY
EXCLUSIVES The Hartmans and
Glen did an excellent job this year. Working their fingers
to the bone they got one tight convention together this
year. The toy exclusives were top notch and they came in
awesome packaging. Although I thought a white Silverbolt
wouldn't be such a great recolor I have to admite that
Windrazor is
awesome. You
really have to see it up close to appreciate it. The red and
purple details make it work and of course it comes in a
blister pack just like a genuine BW toy! Sandstorm
is pretty nice too.
His package is disguised as a book but it's more than meets
the eye (naturally) and opens up to reveal Sandy. However,
of the two I'd say Windrazor is my fave. The $31 for
Windrazor is a real bargain in comparison to the $50
Sandstorm cost. With Sandstorm you're mostly paying for the
package. Speaking of cost though, I see these
exclusives are already up in the hundreds on ebay. Pretty
nuts! There
were like 1200 of these made so its not as rare as the
Breakdown from '94 or anything. Hey, just paint the toys
yourself and save some money. At least I feel I did my part
in picking up some extra exclusives for those people who
asked me to get them some. I had to get in line about an
hour early. Don't think I'm hoarding any just because I was
second in line. I only got about 20 sets or so. I was behind
the guy from Rugby's Starbase who came fairly close to
buying all the exclusives out. I have to thank them for
leaving a few for me. Yes, it's too bad that everybody who
wants one can't have one. Jon and Karl told me that their
approach is to make the exclusive primarily avaliable to the
people who actually attend BotCon rather than people who
just register in order to get the toy. That certainly seems
to get more people out to the show. -DKN- !!
THE BOOTLEG
CHRONICLES
!!! The Bootleg
Chronicles will continue soon! Stay tuned. !!THE
BLOODY END OF TOY HELL!!
OKAY, THE FOLLOWING
REPORT IS OBSOLETE!! TOY HELL WILL NOT BE CLOSING! STILL, WE
CAME PRETTY CLOSE TO CLOSING AND FOR THE FULL STORY READ ON.
BUT REST ASSURED TOY HELL IS HERE TO STAY!! For the last year I
have been the sole lord and master of this hell hole but I
have also been the condemned. And now at last I must seize
my chance to break free. Demonic creatures (customers) have
inflicted continual mental and physical torment as they have
blackened my soul with their demands. WHY THE END!?!
Okay, maybe
it's not the end like I said. It just sounded more dramatic.
And yes, I really do enjoy running Toy Hell and
communicating with all my customers. You guys are the best.
THE DEAL IS
THIS John of Anime
Playground and I try to help each other out but I'm the one
doing all the work right now. I have become quite burdened
recently with many projects and I don't want to continue
running Toy Hell if I feel I will start doing a bad job
because of all my other time commitments. For example, I
don't want to keep people waiting for their orders because I
don't have time to make it to the Post Office. However
beginning mid September I will embark upon a great endevor
which may change the world as we know it.
Yes, I will be
making a film!
No, not a feature. It's just a short but that doesn't
matter. The point is that I'm not going to have any free
time outside of the film for the next 8 months of
production. 'Where do my priorities lie?' you ask.
Well...with my film gosh darn it! Once the film is complete,
in the Sundance Film Festival and I'm the primo filmmaker
extrordinaire right along with Steven (which will be May
15th 2000) then I will relaunch Toy Hell. Actually Toy Hell
will still be on line but you just can't buy stuff! So here
are the facts: THE
FACTS TOY HELL WILL CLOSE
SEPTEMBER 15th 1999 This means I will
check my e-mail on Sept. 15th and confirm my last orders. I
will obviously still send the orders I have already
confirmed but nothing more. Anybody
contacting me to buy something after Sept. 15th will get one
of the following: 1. no
reply 2. a rude
reply 3. a dead
roach TOY HELL WILL
REOPEN MAY 15th 2000 But don't worry I'm
putting my stock of toys in storage. That means that the
exact same stuff that is avaliable now should be avaliable
in February and for the same prices! In eight months the $20
for that Japanese Lazer Rod will look really
good! -DKN-
