February 25, 2002 - Monday
A fairly warm day.
A sad day today for two reasons. The first was that my friend Taeko had to leave
Tsuruoka today. The second is that once again it is the anniversary of my Mother's
death. I always wonder what she would think of my life now. Would she approve?
After all, she did a very similar thing. She left Scotland, her home to move to another country
to teach. While she was there she met a man and got married. Well, except for the
countries involved, it sounds a lot like my life, right?
This morning I did have some happy news though. The Canadian hockey team beat the
US team. Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
Taeko and I got up with Fumihiko and he drove us to the apartment. When we got there
he grabbed his suit and left and us girls had 40 winks. When I woke up I watched
Will and Grace and then found the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. Taeko got
up and watched them with me. It was quite nice. They had Kurt Browning skating at one point,
and some interesting musical guests like KISS and Willie Nelson! Not together though.
That would have been beyond weird.
After the Olympics we got ready to leave. We walked to the Sapporo ramen shop near
the school and had lunch. That was nice. I really enjoyed it.
Then, we walked to the station via Marica. Taeko went through the gate and that was
that. Sigh. I decided to go to Hard Off, a second hand shop and when I was there
I found a Playstation 2 game that I wanted to try, so I bought it.
I bought some groceries on the way back to the apartment, including a new pair of
slippers to wear at home. I hate wearing guest ones.
I tried to play the game, it's called "Bouncers" and it's fun. What's really cool
is that I can choose English for it, so all of the directions are in English. That's
so cool!I can actually understand everything. I hope I can find more like that.
It's a bit violent, but it's not shooting people, so that's good.
Fumihiko came and got me at the apartment and then we came home and ate supper. After
we did the dishes I came upstairs to read old email and do some writing.
That's about it for today.
What did we do when I was offline? Karaoke! Taeko and I went to karaoke twice!
Once with a group of ex coworkers and once just with Fumihiko. It was a blast.
Yesterday we also went for a drive to the beach, then climbed the tower to get the
big view of Tsuruoka and area. I huffed and puffed my way to the top. It was worth it though,
the view was great.
Later eh!
