May 26, 2002 - Sunday

Rainy at first, then sunny and clear.

Well, today was the day of the barbecue. A day that I had been dreading. I don't like going outdoors and I don't like barbecues because I never know what I'm supposed to do. I usually stand around like a lump, waiting for someone to tell me to do something.

This one was a bit different though. I made some garlic toast this morning and brought that along, so I had a contribution and I had to heat it up. It was a good thing that I did, because we reused the tin foil for baking the potatoes! Don't you love recycling?

We had a few interesting accidents though. Someone brought a huge box of charcoal and for some reason it started on fire! Luckily someone put it out. There was a dog there, but not ours, I had forbidden Fumihiko to bring Gombei as he doesn't like me...Gombei, not Fumihiko!

The Canadian guy that I met last Saturday came too, and was quite a big hit with my students. They like to practice their English with other people.

After the barbecue we went to Gusto for Ice cream and drinks. I was very parched as I'd been talking all day and not drinking. My throat was threatening to seize up. I had a chocolate parfait which was very nice.

Fumihiko and I drove Seth back to the school to pick up his bike and then the two of us went to the apartment and watched The Matrix on DVD. I don't know if Fumihiko liked it as much as I did, but it was great. I was a bit surprised at how violent it was, and I wonder if I care about things like that more since September 11th. Wow, it was violent, but very cool.

Then we decided to go out for supper and went to .....a yakiniku restaurant! Yes, we did go to a barbecue today, but neither of us ate all that much meat so we wanted some. It was really nice, except I ordered some really hot soup, thinking it wouldn't be all that spicy. Oops, wrong! I could hardly eat it so Fumihiko ate most of it!

And that's about it. We came home and I think we're going to take our baths and showers soon. Good day, eh?

Night night!
