May 18, 2003 - Sunday

Sunny and warm day, not too hot, but nice.

I had a great day today. I woke up quite late as I had gone to bed quite late last night. Oops. Bad me! We had watched Charade before we went to bed, and it was great. I love Cary Grant of course and I had forgotten just how good Audrey Hepburn was. She's idolized so much over here that it's easy to forget that she was a real actress.

When I woke up I grabbed one of my books and started it, but not really. I read a few pages, but not enough to get into it. I also checked my email and got one letter from my friend Michelle. Fumihiko took his mother out to Oyama to see her mother, so I wrote an answer to my friend. When he came back we decided to go out for lunch.

We went to the Daiichi hotel. It was quite a nice lunch, nothing too special, just nice! Then we drove to the Chido Museum. Fumihiko wanted to see the katana exhibition, and I admit, I wanted to see it too. Katana are Japanese swords. They were gorgeous, but I didn't really know what to look for. I was asking him for help when the young man overseeing the exhibit joined in and gave me some pointers. It was so nice having a conversation in English with him! He knew a lot and gave me a few pointers. We looked at a few of the other buildings and the gardens before we left.

We were going to go to Sakata when we decided to go to the new electronics store. It was really crowded, so I wasn't too comfortable. However, Fumihiko asked about iPods for me, but they didn't have any at the moment. So, he ended up buying a cooking plate for yakiniku and nabe. I think it'll come in handy! After we left we continued on our way to Sakata. When we got to the computer store they were all our of the iPod that I wanted, so I ordered it. I got him to ask about ADSL too, but the guy wasn't too informed about my internet provider's policies.

We went to Mikawa to see if there were any movies on that we should see. The posters weren't too helpful, but I read the names of the movies and discovered that Maid in Manhattan was on at a good time for us. We decided to go and see it, after having some dinner. We went to the diner in Mikawa and had a surprisingly good meal, then hacked around the hardware store for a while. Fumihiko wanted to buy some nets for his cherry tree. Every year the birds get all of the cherries before he does! We went back in and went to the movie. We were the only two people in the theatre! It was a bit strange, but the movie was fun. I haven't heard Fumihiko laugh so much in a while! He enjoyed it even more than I did and I did enjoy it!

After that, we drove back to Tsuruoka where I realized that I was a tad hungry. Not a lot you understand, just a bit! So, we went to Mosburgers and had burgers and frankfurters and jasmine tea. Nice!

We came home and talked for a bit, then Fumihiko took his shower and I started up my computer. That's it for my day. It was a darn good one! Hope tomorrow is good too! Bon soir!
