June 4, 2004 - Friday

I know, it's boring, but today was gorgeous, hot and sunny!

A couple of things for you. First, today is the anniversary of the Tiennamen Square Massacre. I think that was one of the first world events that happened in my lifetime that really made me pay attention (somewhat) to world politics.

Second, and this is a more personal one, it's the fourth anniversary of the day I first kissed Fumihiko. Yep, I got him on the neck (he turned his head at the wrong moment) in the parking lot outside my old apartment on Nishishinsai-machi! Funny how things turn out. I never expected when I did that that I'd end up marrying him. I just planned to have a grand affaire and then leave Japan!

Oh, yeah, another thing that's been going on lately is a bit of interesting language stuff. This might not be funny to you, but bear with me, I'll try to explain it. Lately, Fumihiko has been forgetting to shave, and his face gets a little bristly. I've been reminding him to shave by saying, "Don't forget the hairs on your chinie chin chin." Well, of course, from a western perspective, all I'm doing is saying something a bit childish from the Three Little Pigs....but, well, if you live in Japan, you probably can imagine the reception this gets. Chin-chin is slang for a certain part of the anatomy that men have, if you catch my drift. I'm not trying to say something rude, just something cute, but....

In other things, I found out that Fumihiko has a drinking party tomorrow night and so I'll likely stay at the new apartment. So, my update will be late or possibly non existant. I haven't decided if I'll take my computer yet or not. Hmm.

I finished my Sue Grafton today. J is for Judgment. It was good. I realized that I had read it before, but it was a long time ago. I like her books.

And, to paraphrase Kinsey Millhone, this was my day, respectfully submitted! Night night.
