Rainy and a bit cool.
I had an okay day today. I got up early to watch the news again. It was on, but the first half hour of it or so was in other languages so I couldn't understand it. I watched a few minutes of Rawhide on BS 11. It was kind of neat because of the guest stars. One was Martin Landau (Space 1999) and one was Leslie Nielsen ("Don't call me Shirley"-Airplane) I didn't see the beginning or the end of the show so I have no idea what happened. They didn't have US news on when I was watching, but they did put on the BBC news which I like better anyway.
I had a bumper mail day today. My Journal from my woman's group arrived today, and my computer software arrived too. I haven't tried the software yet, I'm in the midst of backing everything up.
I went to the post office today to mail my friend's birthday parcel and some cards. It was raining so I wore my loverly pink raincoat. The lady in the post office was really nice and was checking with me the best way to send my package. Well, as it's a little late I wanted to send it quickly. Through some miming and lots of goodwill, it got sent. She apologized for not being able to speak English, but quite honestly, I think it's my fault for not being able to speak Japanese. Sigh. She even gave me a present, a post box piggybank. Yay! I had planned to go shopping after the post office, but it was raining quite hard and it was cold, so I decided to just go home!
When Fumihiko called me after his work I asked him to pick up some things for dinner at the grocery store. He came home after that and we spent some time together. We had yakiniku for dinner and it was really good. Fumihiko cut up the kabocha which is an incredibly hard thing to do as it's so hard. I set the table, made our instant miso soup, put out the salad and all the other little things that go into a dinner. Then we ate. And ate. And ate. Finally I just quit. I said that I couldn't eat anymore.
After we did the dishes (I can say we because I dried most of them tonight) I suggested that we go out for coffee. We did. We went to Mr. Donuts for their Cafe au Lait. It was quite nice, and they have free refills. We talked about our travelling experiences, well, mine anyway, and he talked about working at Narita. It was quite nice.
When we came home, I started working on my computer. I have transfered the addresses from my old email system to my new one, AND as a back-up, sent a copy to my internet based email account. That way, if my computer fries with the new software, I'll still have people's email addresses. My address book for things like birthdays and Christmas cards was thankfully backed up already in my iPod, but I have to take it out of my iPod and put it back in the computer. Data usually only goes one way - into the iPod so I think I have to physically transfer it myself. Love that typing of numbers!
Anyway, that's my day. Tomorrow I don't have a lot planned. Fumihiko has to go to a building meeting around 7 pm tomorrow. I'm not going, I just hope they won't suck us into doing something for the building. I always get angry with the penny ante stuff that we're supposed to do. I don't mind being asked to clean our common area of the building for a month twice a year, that's okay. But I don't like it when we have to pay silly things like "insurance" for the building. Huh? Why do I have to pay it to YOU? (building head) Sounds like a kickback to me. Why is it that we're supposed to give money to every charity that's going round? I like to pick my own charities and the amount that I choose to give. What's the use of a 200 yen donation anyway?
One weird thing, they made Fumihiko change his parking stall again. When we first moved here, we didn't have one and had to park just outside our apartment. Then, we got "promoted" to number 5. Now this year they announce that we have to change to number 7. Why? Why? Why? Can't one of the new people take number 7 and we keep number 5? So many things about Japan that I just don't understand, and I don't want to either! Crazy country.
Sorry for the rant. I needed to get that off my chest, thanks for listening. Night night.
