November 27, 2006 - Monday

Rainy all day.

Last night we didn't go to bed. Yup. Call us crazy. I waited for Fumihiko to go and I think he waited for me to go. We didn't. Around 6 am I announced that I was going to go to McDonalds for breakfast before going to bed. Fumihiko said he'd come too. I was planning to walk, but it was raining really hard outside, so we drove.

I was quite impressed. The new restaurant is clean of course, and has an intriguing design. There is a smoking section, partitioned off from the rest of the restaurant. The food was okay. I had a ham and cheese bagel and coffee, Fumihiko had tea, a marron pie and hash browns. I don't usually eat bread, but I was hungry and it was a bagel. It's been ages since I've had one!

We came home and went to bed. Fumihiko got up a couple of hours before I did. I got up around 2 I think and then showered and had coffee. I am happy to report that my neck felt much better after my sleep. It wasn't 100 percent yet, but it was better.

We went to the post office. I got Fumihiko to bring the car close to the door so that the presents wouldn't get wet, but at the post office he carried the big box open in the rain. Argh. I was quite annoyed. I wiped everything dry in the post office. I left the box open because we weren't sure if we could buy a bigger box at the post office. We couldn't. Their biggest one was the same size as the one I already had. Sigh. We had to fill out all kinds of customs forms, and then a new thing. I had to write the weight of all of the goods inside the box. Huh? Like I have any clue! I made up some numbers and wrote them down. Don't sue me please! However, I do have to say one good thing. Today's post office lady really knew her stuff. She didn't freak out at the idea of helping a foreigner with multiple packages (6), she just got on with the job. Hurray for Tsuruoka post office finally having a good staff member. I don't want to say how much it cost to mail everything, but I could have a nice trip to Sendai for the same amount! With a good hotel and everything.

After I mailed off my stuff, I decided to put some 500 yen coins in the post office machine. I'd missed the teller hours inside the post office. I made a mistake at first and thought I could only put 30 in at a time, but I misread it. I put some in and they went in okay, then I decided to put the rest in at once. I did and the machine accepted them, gave me my passbook with the new amount in it, and then had a little meltdown. It said to wait before using it again, and then you could actually hear the coins going around and around inside. Fumihiko freaked out and went and told one of the clerks that I broke the machine. I was a bit upset with him. The machine was fine. It just needed to sort the coins out. The next lady finally got to use it.

We drove out to the mall next. We had dinner/lunch? at Cocos. I had the gorgonzola burger and French onion soup. It was good and I enjoyed it. After our meal we went to an electronics shop where I bought 2 heaters for my school. Fumihiko's been bugging me to get a kerosene heater but I just don't want to. I don't have any place to keep the kerosene, and it's messy and smelly too. Plus, then I'll have to bug him about picking up kerosene for me and it's just a hassle. Instead, I got an oil heater. I'm hoping that it'll be a bit better. I do have to worry about young students. Theoretically my students are old enough to know better, but there's always one child who likes to clown around. I don't want him getting hurt.

We went over to the mall proper next. Fumihiko wanted a massage. The bad weather today really got to his back and he was in a bad mood and in pain all day. He booked one, but couldn't go in for half an hour. So, we decided to have coffee. We went to Seattle's Best. I had cappucino and got a Time magazine. They have a special on right now, one drink of your choice plus the magazine for 1000 yen. I bit! We also got our decafe for the house. We were out.

After coffee we walked back to the massage place and I left Fumihiko in good hands. I didn't do much. I hacked around, I tried on a couple of coats. They fitted okay, but weren't great enough to make me want to splurge, looked at the craft section but didn't buy anything, looked at Christmas stuff...ditto, then went to the grocery store for more sunflower seeds. I picked up an avocado there too. They have them on much cheaper than they are in Tsuruoka.

I met Fumihiko upstairs and we left the mall. We drove back to Tsuruoka. Hubby wanted to go to the grocery store so we did. I decided that we should really cook at home tomorrow because we've had many nights out at restaurants lately. So, it's going to be teriyaki chicken fingers tomorrow night. Yum.

We came home and just putzed around. We watched last week's ER as tonight it wasn't on, and now I'm taping a movie that I wanted to see, but didn't before. It's on the TV now, but I'm not following it. It does have a good cast though. It's The Score with Robert DeNiro, Edward Norton, Marlon Brando, Angela Bassett and sounds like a few other good people.

But that's it. I'm done. I have to try to get hubby to get off to bed soon as he has to be at work much earlier than I do. Wish me luck with that!

Night!
