My Collection Of Original Soft Sculpture Cabbage Patch Kids!

Wouldn't you know I have a story for this too...
Before the Coleco Kids were even produced, I recall going to a boutique in my hometown of Half Moon Bay and seeing a playpen full of dolls that looked like real sleeping babies. When I went to pick one up one of the older women working there told me harshly "Don't touch!" she also said that there were special handmade dolls and not for play. Dolls that were not for play? What was the use? I thought.
Now many years later, as my Coleco collection is growing, I have decided to look back at these dolls that "weren't meant for play". I have read up on the many editions over the years (the babies that I saw were originals, some of the first worth thousands!) the many styles and the most exciting aspect being that they are still made today! Babyland General is still functioning overtime as Mother Cabbages bring more original Soft Sculptures to life. These dolls are truly individual and it is only now that I can understand what the lady meant about them not being played with. These are even off limits to our Chief Of Staff, Jelly Bean! (You won't find any pictures of him cuddling all over the Softies!)
Softies are wonderful works of art, which I hope to (afford) to collect many of some day. They are real treasures!

And here are MY treasures! (these kids are not for sale, but for ones that are, please click here! )

Sandy (girl) and Claude (boy) 1985 Christmas edition set. Champagne hair, green eyes. I fell in love with the original hand made Soft Sculptured dolls when I saw Sandy on ebay. I knew little to nothing about these dolls, so I was surprised to find out that Sandy had a twin brother named Claude! I wrote back to the sellers who sold me Sandy and told them I wanted Claude as well! Sandy and Claude are limited to 5000 sets. At 22 inches and stuffed full of love, they're BIG kids!

Helena Olivia 1985 Gold edition, brown popcorn curls, blue eyes. Her tag says Agatha Jocelyn, but her papers say Helena Olivia. She likes Helena best so that's what we call her. She just has the prettiest face I've ever seen on a Softie and I had to have her! She has rosey cheeks and a happy little smile and her beautiful blue dress compliments her blue eyes. Because of all this Helena may seem feminine, but she sure plays a mean Pin-Ball! Violet Debra 1989 toddler, Lapis Swimwear edition. Violet was my first toddler. I didn't really know what to expect except I knew they were smaller than the full size kids. When I saw how petite she is I was in love! Her adorable bikini and cover-up are bright tropical colors which match my bed spread. She has light brown hair in a baby pony and blue eyes. Just plain precious! Like her big sister Helena, she likes to play Pin-Ball and Cards. She is getting better at Hearts all the time!

This tiny little skater is Krystina who only stands 11" high on her own little icey stand. She was a limited edition of 596 and came out in 1990. She has crimpy black hair, blue eyes that match her outfit and is hand signed by the Man himself! I bought her for myself as a Christmas gift in 2000. (sometimes it's fun to be a little selfish!) and she lives in our China Cabinet all year round. Maureen Carmen 1985 Preemie edition, honey skin. The little preemies from this edition are irresistable and Maureen is no exception. Being the youngest in the family is kind of hard for Maureen though, so hopefully I will be adopting another Preemie for her to play with!
Valari Pandora 1987 Topaz Edition, full size Kid, brown ponies, green eyes. Valari is beautiful despite the mark at the top of her nose. (My mom calls it a "beauty mark"!) She has a plesant expression and her personality is mellow with kind of a "go with the flow" attitude. She also likes to watch me sort through my Beanie Babies collection. She's a sweetie! Here she is in her new Disney outfit. She just loves Minnie Mouse! Janet Yvonne 1985 Gold Edition, full size Kid, red ponies, blue eyes, light freckles. Interplanet Janet she's a galaxy Softie! LOL. Janet is a sweetie with her flaming red hair and sun-shiney outfit with matching bonnet. When I opened her package I found that she has a light sprinkling of freckles across her nose! Janet has become fast friends with Valari and they are so cute together. The best thing is that Janet has an expression on her face like she is contemplating life -- and it's not so bad!
Chloe 2001 Dukes Creek Fall Fest Baby. Chloe was my special gift to my mom for Christmas, 2001! Mom was so surprised when she opened the package and saw Chloe's adorable face and tangerine double fall shag hair! She especially loved her shoes and socks though! They are just too cute on her. Chloe is hand signed by the Man and has all her papers. It was almost hard to give her to Mom, but that means she's still in the family so I can visit her often! Alane Jenise 1985 Ivory Edition, lemon blonde ponies, brown eyes. Sweet Alane has a plesant look on her face that is welcome anywhere anytime. Her soft mint dress compliments her sweet demenor and she has the prettiest big brown eyes. She's also a little Chuncker! Just look at those arms and legs!
