June 3, 1950: Shaun's first wife, Ann Pennington was born.

June 8, 1976: David's stepdaughter Caroline Tanz was born.

June 10, 1972: David's solo single "How Can I Be Sure" was released. It rose to number 25 on the Billboard chart, where it remained for five weeks. It was released in the United Kingdom on September 16, 1972, and rose to number one on the Billboard chart, where it remained for eleven weeks.

June 24, 1972: The New Yorker covered a sold-out David Cassidy concert at the Nassau County Coliseum: "As soon as Cassidy appeared on stage, the little girls in the audience began to scream and take pictures. All the cameras were equipped with flash cubes, and all the flash cubes went off one after another, squirting tiny bursts of light in Cassidy's direction. Flash cubes are a new form of visual applause. We admired the girls' ability to do two things at once... We interviewed Cassidy after the show... He said that after he'd played the Garden he and his staff had sat around trying to figure out how much G.E. and Sylvania had made on flash cubes during his concert. The figure they came up with was nine thousand dollars."

June 24, 1972: The New Yorker about the Partridge Family: "The whole phenomenon is rather good-natured. The little girls don't take it entirely seriously. Neither does Cassidy."

June 25, 1977: David told the TV Guide "I was a piece of raw meat. I was being manipulated and was powerless to do anything about it. What I wanted didn't count." This in connection with his past as a teen idol.

June 28, 1948: David's parents Evelyn Ward and Jack Cassidy married.

DAVID CASSIDY was going to be interviewed on BBC in London for a TV program, by
Michael Barrat. Barrat showed a sudden and a very panicky interest for Danish journalist Torben Hoyer.
- "Who are you?"
- "I'm a Danish journalist following him around in London."
 - "Oh! He's a football player, isn't he?"
- "Not exactly."
- "Oh. I wonder, you
couldn't be so frightfully nice and write down 10 questions, I can ask him? I'll  buy you a pint."

We've received this message from David's PR people via Marjon of the Dutch David Cassidy Fan Club regarding the UK concerts: "We are waiting for contracts to come through for David to sign regarding those dates. He would like to do them, but nothing has been signed as yet.
Hopefully, everything will work out. If not, we feel confident that the promoters will be honorable and return any monies collected."

HEADLINES IN JUNE:

David Cassidy Live in  the U.K.

Brief news about David and his family, including his brothers Shaun, Patrick, Ryan and his stepmom Shirley Jones.

SHIRLEY JONES IN MASON CITY, IOWA
Normally I wouldn't dedicate a whole page for a single visit in a small town in Iowa, but I thought Shirley's visit to Mason City, Iowa, is special to me. Not only do I have relatives in Mason City, which is the original River City in Meredith Willson's "The Music Man" in which Shirley starred in 1962. I used to live there. The Globe-Gazette was my local newspaper. Last, but not least, my two adorable daughters are related to Meredith Willson through their mother, so I thought this would be very special. I visited Willson's childhood home one year ago, and am looking forward to visiting the new museum on my next visit to Mason City.

KIDSCHARITIES.ORG

MESSAGE FROM FOUNDER SUE SHIFRIN-CASSIDY

I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to support KidsCharities.org. Because of you, the miracle of the Internet, and the technology that we have today, fundraising is being changed forever.  What we are discovering is that the Internet provides a worldwide audience that opens up new vistas and opportunities for fundraising and public awareness.  What's more, it is very cost effective and the exposure is so vast that even local fundraisers now have an entire planet where they can showcase their causes and activities.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

April 7, 2001 was our first birthday!  To date, we have done three live events and four online auctions, which provided over $155,000 to our member charities. Not bad for our 1st year, especially considering that our first event only took place last June! After we distribute monies from our Mother's Day and upcoming Father's Day Online Auctions, we should surpass the $170,000 mark!

CURRENT AUCTION

Visit our current Yahoo! Father's Day Auction and help the Stars Reach the Kids! Our current auction is full of terrific items and opportunities that you won't find anywhere else.  DON'T MISS IT!  KidsCharities.org would like to thank the following sponsors of our auction: Wells Fargo Foundation, National Airlines, MGM Mirage, Thomas & Mack Center, Maverick Helicopter, Tower of Jewels - Las Vegas, ReggieJackson.com and Yahoo!

LOOK WHAT WE'VE DONE

We are growing and learning every day. We are amazed at the number of people who now visit our website and the amount of exposure Yahoo! has given us in our auctions. Our sponsors, Wells Fargo Foundation, National Airlines and Yahoo! are responsible for everything you see here. Without them, and without YOU, hundreds of wheelchairs wouldn't have been sent to
Bosnia, Kosovo, El Salvador, Vietnam and many other countries thanks to our grant to Wheels For Humanity.  In addition, very important genetic research on Tourette's Syndrome, being done at City Of Hope, would have gone unfunded and been eliminated. Special Olympics Nevada sent athletes to the Olympic games for the first time in five years, directly as a result of the fundraising we did for them. Families that are homeless are sheltered due to a program founded by Interfaith Hospitality Network in Nevada which received $10,000 worth of food donations from Nabisco, as a result of KidsCharities.org's association with Atlanta-based Safe America Foundation. Thousands of dollars have gone to numerous charities around the country and the world because of KidsCharities.org and that means thanks to YOU. Your donations and support of our auctions and events have made all of this possible.

THE ONLINE WORLD

The Internet has given charities an affordable tool which enables us to thrive. Because basic costs and overheads are so low in a virtual world, we are able to do all kinds of creative things, such as auctions, games and scavenger hunts that bring value to our sponsors and dollars to our beneficiaries with bare-bones equipment, staff and expense.

WEARABLE ART

Beautiful one-of-a-kind "wearable art" custom made pins and refrigerator magnets will be available for you to purchase over our website. These pieces were made by Jeanne Dawkins and donated to us by her and Cheryl Dise. The pins sell for $25 and the magnets sell for $30. We are now affiliated with PAY PAL for your convenience.  You can purchase our pins and magnets and pay for your auction items utilizing PAY PAL.  If you sign up for the service on
KidsCharities.org, we will receive a $5.00 donation to help us with our operating expenses as a thank you from PAYPAL for referring you to them.

THE SECOND ANNUAL DAVID CASSIDY DAY AT THE RACES

The second annual David Cassidy Day at the races will be August 4, 2001, in Saratoga Springs, NY. Come and join us for a great day of fun at America's oldest and most beautiful racetrack.
Contact Debbie Avellino, our Northeast Director, for more information about the event at: Debbie@kidscharities.com

CELEBRATIONS

April and May were big months for David and Sue Cassidy. They were honored by Special Olympics Nevada with "Experience the Glory Inspire Greatness" Award for their fundraising efforts that sent Nevada Special Olympic Athletes to the Olympic games. This was the first time Special Olympics Nevada has been able to send athletes to the games in five years, and this was directly due to KidsCharities.org's donations.

On May 4th, Sue Cassidy was awarded the "2001 World Safe" Award for Non-Profit Leadership sponsored by Safe America Foundation, USA Today, Delta Airlines, Ford, and Traveler's Property Casualty. World Safe is an alliance of these companies and organizations that will provide an education for business people traveling to countries abroad, gun safety, teen driver's safety, and cyber safety. Safe America is one of our core beneficiaries. KidsCharities.org is proud to have an association with Safe America and World Safe.
