The New Thunderbolts

Paroled from prison early for assiting the Avengers, Abe Jenkins adopted a new armored guise as MACH-4 and began rebuilding the Thunderbolts, recruiting Songbird, Atlas and career criminals Blizzard, Speed Demon, Joystick and Radioactive Man; however, a morally conflicted Jenkins has struggled as a leader, Atlas has proven unstable and the new recruits have been slow to embrace the group's redemptory philosophy. Songbird, no longer in love with Abe, has begun to lose faith in the team in general and Jenkins in particular, especially after she and Atlas learned that Abe got the new team's startup cash from Baron Strucker, who had hoped to set the Thunderbolts up as cannon fodder for an apocalyptic assault on Manhattan. Despite these internal tensions, the Thunderbolts became belovedcelebritiesagain after they saved New York from a Hydra nuclear assault with a last-minute assist from cosmic antihero Genis-Vell (formerly Captain Marvel), who had returned as the semi-amnesiac Photon after a raging Atlas beat him nearly to death. With Photon as their newest recruit, the Thunderbolts continue to work to save the world, perhaps saving their souls in the process.
