~The Enforcers~

Who are the Enforcers?

The Enforcers are a simming team consisting of characters ranging from the comic depths of the Marvel universe, to the unique characters of Japanese animation, and to the creativity of orginal characters designed by members. Having originated from the Marvel SIM Chat (MSC) the Enforcers use descriptive style role-playing without dice.

What was the Marvel SIM Chat?

The Marvel SIM Chat was an AOL chat room featured on the Marvel Comics webpage that existed several years ago for fans to come in and role-play their favorite Marvel characters. In the beginning the chat room only beared the name the Danger Room before it was split up into the Marvel SIM Chat and the Marvel Comics Chat. The limitations of Marvel characters quickly crumbled as the MSC became a popular hangout for any character imaginable, though the dominant Marvel characters were still noticable. Any level RPGer was welcome and it was a place several long term role-players found their roots. The setting of the Marvel SIM Chat was often viewed as a tavern or bar, though it never stopped anyone from expanding storyline adventures to the unknown reaches of space, the mysterious depths of oceans, mystical forests, technologically advanced futures, and beyond. Brawls were nearly gaurenteed to be happining upon entry if not water fights, though in all it was a place of enjoyment and fun for several years. Due to the popularity of the MSC role-players created RPG teams and guilds of both good and evil alliance, though very few forgot their connection to the chat room. With all things though, it was not meant to last. A lot of factors led to the downfall of the Marvel SIM Chat, among them being a growing dispute over which set of role-playing guidelines were to be used as the MSC never had a set rules assigned. In the end though it was Marvel Comics ending their contract with AOL that brought the MSC's fall. To this day though old regulars of the Marvel SIM Chat still remember the fun, thrill, and creativity of the chat room that made it great.

How many members do the Enforcers have?

Currently 23 members and 2 individual allies. A complete list of members with their ranks and respective characters can be found on the "Member List" page.

When was the team founded?

The Enforcers formed in August of 1997. With most members having simmed for over 4 years and some members even over 8 years, the team has proved itself far from inexpirenced.

What are the goals of the Enforcers?

Fun, friendship, fairness, originality, creativity, uniqueness, acceptance, challenging storylines, advancement of skills, adventure into imagination and beyond.

What are the team colors?

In no particular order: red, white, and blue. The team colors were chosen by Quasar345 shortly after the team was formed.

How often do the Enforcers gather?

Three meetings are held each week during Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evenings. Members are never forced to attend a meeting though attendance is requested at least once a week. Meetins normally last about two hours each, though they can be as short as an hour or as long as sometimes four hours depending on what is being done and the commitment of members attending. Visit the "Meeting Schedule" for more information on meeting times and objectives.

What storylines are simmed during meetings?

Any member is welcome to host a storyline of their own for the team so the only limit on what storylines are held is just to make sure all characters can be intergrated into the storyline. The Message Boards, however, does not have this limit as a storyline SIM can be started with the intent of members creating new characters. Visit the "Storylines" page for more information.

Where is it appropriate to spar with teammates?

Friendly spars are more than welcome during meetings. Death matches, on the other hand, are never allowed between team members. Being a team requires respect for fellow members and members would not like their character killed in a friendly spar. Be respectful of you fellow teammates. However, characters can still die at will in storyline SIMs as long as both the player of the character and the host of the SIM agrees upon the death.

What are the character limitations for the Enforcers?

The Enforcers is a team of good alliance. That is the only requirement for characters wishing to join the team. However members are welcome to create characters of evil alliance that exist outside the team in character for storyline or message board SIMs.

What are your recruitment methods? How may I join?

An application is sent out to anyone that wishes to join. The offical application will soon be added on the webpage, but in the meantime email me at GuyvrGirl@aol.com if you're interested in joining.

Do I have to be experienced in role-playing to join?

No. The Enforcers will accept both characters of any level and players with any amount of experience from novices to veteran role-players.

How many characters am I limited to?

There is no limit to how many characters you may sim on the Enforcers. However, it is advised that if you are new to free form role-playing to just start off with one character until you grasp the concept of simming.

Do I have to wear a uniform?

Hehe... no. Contray to some similar connections, the Enforcers are far from the X-Men or Fantastic Four. To keep a material connection between teammates in character though, members are given a high tech wrist communications watch with the symbolic "E" for Enforcers engraved into it in order to always remain in contact with other members.

What topics are discussed on the Message Board forums?

The MBs have mainly become a place for the team to host and participate storyline SIMs. A description and link of each ongoing MB SIM can be found on the "Storylines" page. Aside from SIMs, the forums are also a place of entertainment and a place to discuss fututre plans for the Enforcers Homepage.

~Role-Playing Information~

What is role-playing?

A role-playing game (RPG) is a game in which each participant assumes the role of a character that can interact within the game's imaginary world. These characters can range from fantasy elves and ogres to futuristic robot pilots to powerful modern day mutants. The only boundaries are the limits of one's imagination in RPGs.

... Simming?

Simulation. Simming is also defined as free form role-playing. Free form role-playing is improvisational story telling. Each player has a character(s) and those characters interact with others belonging to other players. Each player decides the actions and fate of his/her own character. This means that dice are not necessary. Free-form gaming involves cooperation between the players toward the shared goal of creating the best story possible. Simming is more specific than a basic RPG, usually including longer and more thought-out storylines.

What is the object of a RPG?

Aside from the purpose of any game (having fun), the object of a RPG is to better your character through adventures.

What are the rules involving free form role-playing?

There are no rules, but there are guidelines. For a complete detailed explaination of this please view our "Role-Playing Guidelines".

How do I create a character?

A lot of people think this is a tough question, but it really doesn't have to be. Just use your imagination. First, decide what kind of genre you want to participate in. e.g., High Tech, Historical, or Fantasy. Then cover the basics, is the character male, female, tall, short, slim, muscular, smart, or other? Give the character a name and the beginnings of a personality and a history. Two good questions to ask yourself is, "What makes this character special or unique?" and "What skills do this character specialize in?". A lot of new players make the mistake of putting too much detail into a new character. Just sketch out the details at first. That way, you have a lot of room to let the character develop itself as you play.

What makes a character real?

One of the best traits of a good role-player is the ability to make their character(s) seem lifelike and real. So what makes a character real?

1) Characters are real when they respond to the world around them.
If someone throws a glass against the wall with a loud crash, a character should respond by jumping, getting angry, smirking, or reacting in some other manner. Reacting to the things happening around your character can be difficult in a crowded room, but even if you have trouble keeping up you can use the chaos of the room as a valid reason for why your character might miss something. Keep in mind to keep character reactions realistic. If a bomb goes off in the center of the room at the same moment that someone throws the glass against the wall then it's only normal to react to the bomb before the shattered glass.

2) Characters are real when they are flawed.
The flaw can be a physical one such as a scar or a limp. It can also be a personality trait. Some characters are stubborn to the point of foolishness. Some faint at the sight of blood. Others must respond to any and all challenges. Flaws are sometimes the best way to give a sense of lifelikeness to a character since every living human has their own flaws.

3) A character is real when there is a detailed continuity of movement.
Be descriptive. Remember that the other person needs to have a good idea of what you are doing in order for a spar or sim to be effective. Details can also greatly distinguish your character from others.

4) Characters are real when they have signature habits and expressions.
For example, in a moment of confusion a character may arch their eyebrow up or tilt their head to the side to show their confusion instead of stating their feelings outloud. Body actions are often used to react to situations moreso than words, and people generally make a habit of what reactions and expressions they express when faced with various situations.

5) A character is real when they are consistent.
If you play a character who keeps his/her cool and can't be ruffled then don't start yelling at everyone who happens to walk by. Likewise, if you character is heavy and slow he / she should not have very good maneuvering abilities whenever you feel like it. Stick to your character's personality, habits, powers, and abilities.

6) A character is real when they have a history.
This doesn't mean you have to hammer out all the details of your character's life before you play them, but you should at least have a vague sketch of their past at hand. A character will react to a certain situation based on his/her past experience. A world weary mercenary will react differently to the sight of a bleeding stranger than an innocent child.

For more tips of making your character realistic visit the "Role-Playing Guidelines".

What is the main setting in character?

In character the Enforcers have a base estblished a few miles outside New York that is similar to the X-Men's mansion. For a more detailed description of the base along with other locations and means of transportation please visit the "Locations" page.

Who are the website's staff?

Adam the Alien, Clamup7004, and I make up the staff for the Enforcers Homepage. Adam the Alien is the guy behind all the wonderful banners on each of the Enforcers pages, except the one featured on this (FAQs) page which was done by Xx Nuclear xX. Clamup7004 provided the basic layout for the webpage as well as basic HTML coding advice. I take care of everything else.

How may I contact the team?

Member email addresses are kept private from visitors for personal reasons and to reduce any unwanted email spamming. However, the website administrators can be contacted openly for any questions or comments you may have. You can contact me at GuyvrGirl@aol.com or GuyvrGirl@yahoo.com. Adam the Alien can be contacted at AdamTheAlien@canby.com. Clamup7004 can be contacted at TheMightyMollusk@yahoo.com. The link to these email addresses can also be reached on any page of the website under the "Staff" section in the left collum.

Do you have a domain name?

www.enforcers-sim.com
Please use this address to reach the site instead of the old Angelfire address.

Is this the first team website?

No. Three other webpages for the Enforcers existed in the past. The original webpage was created by Adam The Alien with AOL Hometown and then later moved to Tripod where it was given a slightly altered look and reorganized. Later a Yahoo Groups webpage was created with more information pertaining to the team, but with growing ads featured on the page interest was soon lost. Unfortantely the Tripod page no longer exists and the Yahoo clubs page can only be viewed by members given an invitation. If you wish to view to the old AOL Hometown page click Here. The new website has advanced quite a ways from the older ones. ^_^

Why all the different banners?

The banners represent a sort of visual timeline for the Enforcers and contain character pictures over a span of four years. Banners are in order from most recent to oldest on the main website pages under the "Members" section in receeding order. The FAQs page and Updates page host two banners that were a gift from Xx Nuclear xX.

Where do you get your pictures from?

As stated in the disclaimer, the Enforcers do not claim rights to any character pictures on this page as a majority of them originate from various sites, with the expception only being those pictures drawn by members themselves. Most pictures came directly from a comic or anime series and were found on both offical sites and fan pages. However, a few pictures have been original drawings from fellow members and belong soley to them. They are stated as follows:
