2002 RULES [ General Rules ] [ Late Models ] [ Sportsman ] [ Factory Stocks ] [ Pro 4 ] [ Stock 4 ] Sportsman Division Rules 1.
Body: Any American made 101-inch wheelbase car. Convertibles, pickups,
suv, four wheel drive, compacts or subcompacts are not allowed. Must be made of
all stock appearing sheet metal. Aftermarket stock appearing body panels, nosepieces
and rear panels such as those from Five Star are allowed. The panels must match
year of the body being used and installed in the stock location without angle.
Cutting or trimming of the bottom of the nosepiece is not allowed. Door skins,
hoods and roofs may be fabricated out of steel sheet metal; aluminum or
fiberglass. The body must be completely and neatly painted. Car numbers must be
at least 18-inches tall and 3-inches wide on both doors and on the roof. The
number on the roof must face the outside of the track. A 6 x 1 white number
must be on the upper right hand corner of the windshield. All glass must be
removed. 2.
Brakes: Must have four (4) wheel brakes and all working. Aftermarket
components are allowed. 3.
Bumpers: Mandatory. Must be capped and rounded on the ends. No sharp
corners. 4.
Carburetor: 500 cfm Holley 4412 only with 1 11/16 maximum diameter base
only. Unaltered except for the removal of the choke horn, choke butterfly shaft
and butterfly. A 1-inch thick adaptor plate is allowed. 5.
Clutch: Only Stock clutch, pressure plate and flywheel allowed. Aluminum
flywheels are not allowed. A safety bell housing is mandatory. 6.
Coolant: Water is the only coolant allowed. 7.
Drive Shaft: Must be painted white and have front and rear steel safety
hoops. Chains are not allowed. Aluminum drive shafts are not allowed. 8.
Engine: Cast iron engines only. 360 cubic inch maximum. The engine must
be mounted in the stock location with #1 spark plug even with the ball-joint.
Cast Iron heads only. Porting and Polishing is not allowed. Dart Iron Eagle 180
straight plug heads, Roush 180 or M-6049-N351 heads are allowed. Roller rockers
are allowed. Cast iron or Edelbrock RPM Performer intakes are allowed. Maximum
compression ratio of 12 to1. Big block engines are not allowed. Electric fuel
pumps are not allowed. Only battery operated ignition allowed. 4-inch x 14-inch
diameter air cleaners are mandatory and allowed to protrude through the hood
for clearance purposes only. 9.
Exhaust: Headers that dump into a maximum 2 ½-inch diameter exhaust pipe
that exits from under the car behind the driver. Mufflers are mandatory.
Maximum allowable noise level of 100 decibel.
10. Fire Extinguisher: An ABC type extinguisher
securely mounted within easy reach of the driver and track officials. Minimum
of 3 lb size. 11. Fire Suits: Mandatory: Must be in
good/safe condition and worn during all events. 12. Frame: Stock OEM Frame from the
nose to the centerline of the rear-end. Manufacturer is optional. Tube
tail-sections are allowed from the centerline of the rear-end to the rear
bumper. May incorporate different make, model and year. No tube frames. 13. Fuel: Pump gas only. 14. Fuel System: Fuel cells are mandatory.
Must be mounted in a steel container that is secured to the frame. A firewall
must be located between the fuel cell and drivers compartment. Fuel lines
cannot pass through the drivers compartment. Fuel cell or containers have a
minimum ground clearance of 8-inches. 15. Helmet: Mandatory during all events.
Must be Snell 95 approved and in good/safe condition. 16. Interior: All steel interior that must
seal the drivers compartment from the engine compartment and trunk. Aluminum is
not allowed. No high interiors. The maximum engine compartment firewall set
back is 24-inches behind the upper ball joint. 17. Mirrors: Not allowed. 18. Radiator: Must be mounted in stock location. Radiator
reinforcement must be behind the grill. A one (1) gallon overflow-can must be
securely mounted in the engine compartment. 19. Rear end: Floaters, locked, welded,
posi-traction and limited slip are allowed. Quick change rear-ends are not
allowed. Inter-changing of all OEM components is allowed. No aftermarket
components are allowed. 20. Roll cage: A six (6)-post cage made of
1 ¾ diameter .095 wall thickness tubing is mandatory. Three (3) sissy bars made
of the same dimensional tubing must be welded into the cage on the drivers’
side and two (2) welded into the cage on the passenger side. A 24 x 24-inch x
1/8-inch plate must be welded on the outside of the drivers’ side sissy bars
and inside the door skin to protect the driver. 21. Rub rails: Are allowed. Must be made of
steel. 1inch tubing with the ends capped and rounded. Must be mounted using
carriage bolts. Sharp edges and kick outs are not allowed. 22. Seat: Approved made for racing
aluminum are allowed. Must be securely mounted to the frame or roll cage. 23. Seat Belts: A Five (5) point system is
mandatory. Quick release lap belt securely mounted to the roll cage or frame is
mandatory. The belts must be coded and dated. Maximum age of the belts is 5 years. 24. Spoilers: Rear spoilers are allowed.
Clear Lexan only. Maximum width of 68-inches, maximum height of 6-inches.
Maximum of 40-inches from the top of the spoiler to the ground. Rudders and
sideboards are not allowed. 25. Suspension: Steel or cast iron components
only. Aftermarket hubs and spindles are allowed. Shocks can be adjustable, heim
ends allowed. Shock mount relocation is allowed. Screw jacks are allowed.
Adjustable sway bars are allowed. Driver operated weight jacking devices are
not allowed. Lug nuts must be 1-inch minimum with ½ -inch minimum studs. No
aluminum or coil-over shocks. Rack and pinion steering is not allowed. Heim
joints on the steering system are allowed. 26. Transmission: Manual or Automatic
transmissions are allowed. Automatic transmissions must have a working torque
converter and reverse and vented to an overflow can. Automatic transmission oil
coolers must be mounted outside of the drivers’ compartment. Made for racing
transmissions are not allowed. 27. Tires: Hoosier Sportsman 27/8/15 or
26.5/8/15 in any combination are required. Tires and wheels may not protrude
past the outside of the fenders. 28. Tow Hooks: Mandatory on the front and
rear of the car. Must be made of 5/16 chain and securely mounted to the car. 29. Weight: 3200 lbs with the driver
after the race. 55% maximum left side weight. All added weight must be painted
white and mounted with ½-inch bolts 30. Wheels: Made for racing wheels only.
Maximum of 8-inches wide. Any offset is allowed. 31. Window Net: Mandatory. Made for racing
nets only on the drivers side with a quick release mechanism securely mounted
to the roll cage. |
