2001 LinksLS News:
Thursday, July 26th, 2001 8:40 pm Microsoft announced that the Links Championship Edition, the most complete golf experience in one box, will be available at retail locations throughout North America in October 2001 for an estimated street price of $49.95, with a $20 USD mail-in rebate for owners of Links 2001. Links Championship Edition is the entire Links 2001 collection in one package and includes a full version of Links 2001, the powerful 3D Arnold Palmer Course Designer, 13 championship courses, 14 professional and amateur players, and new course design tools for the Links 2001 franchise. Links Championship Edition adds four all-new golf courses to Links 2001. Pennsylvania's Oakmont Country Club, Australia's Royal Melbourne, The Frankfurter Golf Club of Germany, and The Judge Course at Capitol Hill from the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Alabama are all included, along with five original Links 2001 and four Links Expansion Pack professionally-designed golf venues.
Saturday, June 9th, 2001 | 7:00 pm This News update thanks to Steve Cherrier! Microsoft is announcing a new Web site for its Links franchise: Links Country Club, the official portal to the Links fan community, will go live on June 18. LinksCountryClub.com will direct visitors to popular Links fan sites, as well as offer original content and activities from Microsoft, such as the Links Tour. The 2001 Links VGA Tour will also originate from LinksCountryClub.com and details of this tour will be announced soon. By partnering with Links fan sites, LinksCountryClub.com will point visitors to popular community sites for news, golf course downloads, discussion boards, and more. For example, someone wishing to find courses to download would visit the new site, navigate to the "Downloads" section, then be directed to any of a number of fan sites that offer course downloads. Scott Lee, Links Product Manager, feels that a tight community is very important. "What makes Links so popular is the strong community. By providing one central 'portal' where all Links players -- both current and new -- can go to discover other Links fan sites, players and fan sites alike will have a more tightly knit community, richer online experience, and increased traffic and participation. LinksCountryClub.com will help players find everything from tournaments to new courses to community discussion boards and news, all originating from a single Web site devoted to Links players with their interests at the forefront - just like a real country club." Mark Hulka, former webmaster at Access Software, will be the new webmaster for LinksCountryClub.com. Says Mark, "I'm really excited to join the Links community again! I believe the Links Country Club will be an enormous asset to Links players!" Mark will work with Links fan community and Web sites to ensure that links from LinksCountryClub.com to fan sites are current and supported. He will be joined by David Cass, who will help run tournaments on Links Tour. Just a reminder that the LSTour will be closing its virtual doors on June 30. Bruce Darby of Microsoft will be posting reminders on the LS Tour home page as we draw closer to the end date. For those of you still using Links LS 2000, feel free to visit the many fan tournament sites that utilize this version. If you have Links 2001, be sure to visit the Links Tour and get involved in all the tournament action. A new update for Links 2001 is now available from the official Links site. The 1.21 update corrects a number of issues that Linksters were having. Please be sure to consult the readme file included with the patch for all the details. Be sure to download and install the Links 2001 1.21 update if you intend on playing on the Zone lobbies. If you participate in the Links Tour, the update will be required for play when the new tour week starts on June 14. The Links Tour statistics will be reset at this time. Some of the changes include:
Monday, May 14th, 2001 | 7:10 pm On a trip through the Links community today, I found a couple of new News! First off, over at The Course Depot, Bill Murray has posted news about a LinksŪ 2001 Digital Armchair Architect Contest. Basically it's a contest which participants will be asked to use the APCD to create their own 3-hole or 18-hole golf course. There are prizes for each, including a round of golf with Sergio Garcia in real life, and on your created course with Links 2001!! Go check out more information about it at the official Arm Chair Architect contest homepage! Allllso, I came across some preview screenshots of the current Augusta National course in progress. This has been the most anticipated and most wanted course in the LinksLS series. Now with the APCD, we'll get it.. eventually. If you care to take a look and drop off some comments to the creator, take a trip over to the Links Forum Corner

The Links 2001 Expansion Pack will be available at retail locations throughout North America in late May 2001. Included will be PGA Tour pros Mike Weir and Keith Clearwater and four new courses designed for play with Links 2001. New to the Links franchise, Weir and Clearwater join the Links 2001 pro line-up that already includes Sergio Garcia, Arnold Palmer, and Annika Sorenstam. PC golfers will now be able to play as Sergio Garcia on The Canyons Course at Bighorn (Palm Desert, CA), home of the Battle at Bighorn where Garcia defeated Tiger Woods last summer. Or duffers can tee-off on Thanksgiving Point (Lehi, Utah), featuring a challenging championship layout measuring over 7,700 yards from the back tees. Bighorn's Canyons Course and Thanksgiving Point are joined by newly upgraded versions of Pelican Hill (Newport Coast, CA) and Banff Springs (Alberta, Canada) in the Links 2001 Expansion Pack. The Expansion Pack also includes two new Course Design Kits to help players create their own courses with the Arnold Palmer Course Designer (APCD). The Course Design Kits come with new planting sets and hundreds of golf course objects, trees, shrubs, vegetation, and more in desert and highland themes. Additionally, the Links 2001 Expansion Pack will contain the Links 2001 Course Converter that allows players to convert up to 36 Links LS courses for play with Links 2001 (courses must be previously owned). |
