Super Saiyan 1

This is the very first Super Saiyan stage, Goku first achieved this stage in the Frieza Saga after Frieza killed Krillin to reached this stage It requires the Saiyan to become extremely angry. Super Saiyan's increases their strength, muscle mass, speed and agility making them twice as strong as before their hair turns bright goldish/yellow and stands up, A golden glow occurs around them Vegeta goes super Saiyan shortly after Goku and then all main Saiyan characters manage to go super Saiyan except Pan and Bra.

Ultimate Super Saiyan

The Ultimate SS state is used briefly in DBZ right before the Cell Game. This state of SS increases the Saiyan's power, but not by much. The state itself looks pretty cool though because the Saiyain's body becomes totally pumped up. Goku, Trunks and Vegeta are able to reach this level.

Ultimate Super Saiyan Stage 2

This stage looks REALLY cool, unfortunately it's only used in battle once. The Saiyan's body becomes HUGE and muscular. The Saiyan's power is increased by a huge amount during while in this state, however because of the muscular pump-up, the Saiyan is very slow moving and can leave openings for attacks if their opponent is skilled enough to spot them. Goku and Trunks are able to reach this level.

Super Saiyan 2

This is the next stage of Super Saiyan. This stage was first achieved by Gohan in the Cell saga shortly before Gohan killed Cell. This stage is only achieved when the Saiyan becomes very anger. Their appearance is almost the same as Super Saiyan the differences is greater muscle mass than Super Saiyan a few more inches of goldish/yellow hair but less clumpy and Some Saiyan have one strand of hair hanging down on their forehead some people say that they also have zapping bluish/silver lightning bolts around them while powering up. Goku reaches this stage in heaven and Vegeta shortly after Goku. These are the only three Saiyans that reach Super Saiyan Level 2.

Super Saiyan 3

Goku is the only true Saiyan that reaches Super Saiyan 3. Goku first achieved this level in Heaven once again. A Saiyan needs much training to achieve this level. The appearance of the Saiyan in this stage changes incredibly they increases their muscle mass, speed, agility, strength and grows an extremely long length of hair about 4 and half feet of flowing goldish/yellow hair they eyebrows disappear and the bone structure protrudes making a more primitive looking subject such as an ape. Goku couldn't hold this level due the lack of strength (The one and only disanvaneg of Super Saiyan 3 is while in Super Saiyan mode it wears down the body sanfegetly so this level can only be used for a short time),although he does reach Super Saiyan Level 4. The only other Saiyan to reach this level is Gotenks (Goten and Trunks fused together) Only Goku and Gotenks have achieved this level. No other Saiyan has achieved it, but others have gone past this level such as Vegeta.

Super 4

This stage was never achieved by anyone, I and others agree that this is not actually a Super Saiyan stage. This is why, Akira Toriyama (The creator of DragonBall and DragonBall Z) didn't directly make DragonBall GT. Akira was more of a supervisor than a creator, and he was there to provide information. When the creators of DragonBall GT decided to make a Super Saiyan Level 4 With increased muscle mass and their upper torso covered with radish/brown fur, and their hair black instead of bright goldish/yellow they have red eyes and This is also the only stage with a tail and with no downsides. Akira did not agree with their decision. Akira stated that Super Saiyan Level 4 would require bright goldish/yellow hair as he's mentioned earlier in the DragonBall series. The company went against Akira's wishes and created the black haired Super Saiyan. In the anime Goku is the only Saiyan to become Super Saiyan 4 by himself. However Vegeta becomes Super Saiyan 4 with the help of his wife Bulma. She creates a device called a Brute Wave which turned him into a Super Saiyan 4 and only one other Saiyan reaches this level and that is Gogeta (Super Saiyan 4 Goku and Super Saiyan 4 Vegeta fused together) SS4 Gogeta is the strongest person in the entire anime. I believe in calling this stage Super 4 instead of Super Saiyan Level 4 because once again this is not a Super Saiyan stage.

Oozaru

When a Saiyan stares at a full moon they will transform into an Oozaru this is possibly the most powerful level under Super Saiyan Level 3. Almost all Saiyan's will be able to control themselves in this stage, unfortunately Goku and Gohan will not have this control. It does not matter which full moon they look at. Vegeta had the ability to create a pocket-sized full moon when he first arrived on Earth. In DragonBall GT Goku transformed into an Oozaru by looking at the full moon from Space A Saiyan must have a tail to be able to transform into an Oozaru. If the tail is cut off or the source is destroying (The Moon) they will return to normal. If the tail is pulled out by the roots the Saiyan will not be able to transform into an Oozaru ever again.

Golden Oozaru

This stage was achieved by Goku and Bebi-Vegeta in DragonBall GT as Goku swatted Bebi-Vegeta all over Planet Plant (a.k.a. Planet Vegeta, Planet Plant was renamed Planet Vegeta after it was taken over by the Saiyans). This is the most powerful of all stages that a Saiyan can achieve the main difference with this stage is that they have yellow fur instead of brown.
