These are just a few of the books which may be a reflection of, or might have even been instrumental in shaping my socialist attitudes.
Most of the authors or subjects of these books are Great Spirits and deserve recognition as such.
There are many thousands of books available that should be read. If you have any you would like to recommend, drop me a note.

I realize this list is a little long,(and it could be alot longer) but once I started, I found that there was an awful lot of music that I listen to that I felt needed mentioning.
I will make every attempt to correctly signify which of these artists are Canadian.
I tend to listen to music that I feel makes an important contribution to society or sends some sort of positive message. Listen carefully, most of the bands above may surprise you with what they have to say. I would consider most of them Great Spirits.

Movies... with cast, director and plot (if I have that information)
Blade Runner
1982
Directed by Ridley Scott
Based on the book 'Do Androids dream of electric sheep?' by Philip K Dick
Starring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young and Edward James Olmos
This is one of my all time favourites. The kind of movie you can watch over and over and get something new out of it with each viewing. The story is set in the future, and Ford plays a Blade Runner, a Cop whose job it is to eliminate renegade androids, called Replicants, who are all too human and capable of tremendous violence. The Replicant, Roy Batty, played by Hauer, is an amazing character, desperately seeking a way to increase his short life span, he ends up being more human than some of his pursuers. This was one of the most stylishly filmed movies I've seen and is full of interesting symbolism (note the fixation on eyes).
Quote from the movie...'the flame that burns twice as bright, burns half as long, and you have burned oh so brightly Roy.'
Runaway Train
1985
Directed by Andrei Konchalovsky
Based on a screenplay by Akira Kurosawa
Starring Jon Voight, Eric Roberts and Rebecca DaMornay
Voight and Roberts are convicts who break out of a maximum security prison and liberate a locomotive that loses it's breaks and hurtles toward certain doom. All the while being persued by the sadistic prison warden. This film is intense and a rollercoaster ride from beginning to end, with terrific performances by Voight and Roberts.
DeMornay to Voight-" you're an animal" Voight"No...not an animal...worse...human"
