The 50km race walk is great for spectators. After leaving the stadium, the competitors must complete 24 loops of the course before heading back to the stadium. So you get see them two dozen times, not just one fleeting glimpse. And you also see them up-close, just a few feet away.
The race began at 08:00 and finished over 4 and a half hours later! Forty-eight walkers started the race. Seven did not finish DNF; 10 were disqualified DQ.
