November 7, 2000 Today…the president for the next four years was chosen. I am sitting here at 2:30 in the morning, and I am scared for the future of our country. Governor George W. Bush is the President-elect…and I can't even express into words the disbelief and utter fear that I am feeling right now. Last Friday, November 3, Dom and I went to go see Al Gore. He came to our campus to speak, and I was really excited because I am all about Gore!!! First his daughter spoke, and then Tipper, and then Gore himself. As always, he spoke so eloquently, and from the heart. There is just something about the way he speaks that really captivates me. I really see that he speaks for the people, and I know that he truly does care for everyone. Tonight, Dom and I went to this election party that one of her teachers was throwing. He was running for some city office…but he knew that he wasn't going to win. Anyway, he rented out this room in the Ramada Hotel, and in order to have food, he need to order enough for about 120 people. So, he invited some of the students in his classes to come. When we got there, Gore was in the lead…(This was when we thought the electoral votes from Florida were going to Gore). Dom and I ate, and we talked to some of the other younger kids there for while. A couple hours later, Dom and I left because tonight wasn't only Election Day, but the final episode of The REAL WORLD!!! We got back to her room, and we heard the disappointment about the situation with Florida. Between switching between CNN and MTV…Dom, her roommate and I were fooling around making bets on who was going to win the presidency. Dom's roommate is a Bush fan…I forgive her…and after screaming at each other about who was better, we made this crazy bet. If Bush won, then Dom and I had to run outside, me without a shirt…Dom with my scarf covering her boobs…and we had to run around a dorm building. It's a damn big dorm! If Gore won, then Dom's roommate would be the one to run outside around the dorm with just a scarf covering her boobs. Well, by 12:00a.m. the girls were going to bed, and we still didn't know who was going to be the next president. The votes from Florida kept jumping around. When I got to my room, I told my roommate that we had to watch CNN as we went to bed. So, at around 2:00a.m. I heard one of the guys down the hall yelling. Jeff and I switched to CNN, and it had a picture of Bush. At the bottom of the screen it was the he was the next president. I am so passionate about not having him as the president because of positions he holds on so many issues. I am not going to go through them because that will just further aggravate me, but the guy belongs back in Texas where he made the state one of the lowest ranked states in America. I am going to go to bed and hope that this all was just some nightmare… |
