Fun Quotes and Stories
(2/07) I was talking with Calvin over lunch and he said that he did not think he had tooken any video during our recent tip to Boston.  I corrected him and told him that he should have said that he had not taken any,,, and he said that he knew that but that is how he says the word "taken".

Before school one morning, I told Calvin that I would pick him up for a dentist appointment.  He looked at me in shock, and said "this is totally unexpected."

Calvin is really in to creating stories.  He recently wrote a story with Steve.  Check it out on his new story page.

We have been talking about New Years resolutions around the new year.  For some reason, Henry and Calvin kept calling them New Years revolutions.  Calvin said that his New Year revolutions were to become better in basketball and reading.

Henry said that he wanted to make Two Year revolutions because they would last longer.

I was recently pulling the kids in the toboggan.  The game is for me to run, twist, spin or otherwise try to knock them off the sled.  They fall off and then I run and they try to catch up and jump back on.  And so on.  The thing is, this is very tiring, so I take breaks and just pull them along for periods.  During these times, they are always begging me to run and start the game and I usually stall for time to catch my breath and hope that my lungs stop burning.  After begging to start the game over and over, I told Calvin that I would start again when they least expected it.

After a few minutes, Calvin said: “Dad, we are least expecting it”
___

Calvin and I were setting up a game of checkers.  I told Calvin that I always forget which color goes first.  I said that I thought that it was white but that I would check the directions.  I looked at the directions and said, yes, white starts first.

In classic Calvin fashion, he said: “but how do you know you are right?”

I said: “I just read the directions.”  He said: “What if you read them wrong.”
___

I told Calvin that it was a good idea to know his phone number.

He said: “Yea, because when we are teenagers and you guys are old and probably dead, we will need to know our phone number.
___

Calvin was upset about something and I said: “Its not the end of the world.”

Calvin said: “Where is the end of the world?”
So, I told him what the “end of the world” phrase meant and he said: “yea, like that’s ever going to happen.”
___

On the way to school one morning, Calvin said that he was really looking forward to art class (he loves art class).  He went on to say that art was like a combination of music and gym.  I asked him, how so and he said: “well, it is like music because you do it sitting down and it is like gym because it is a workout for your hand.”
___

I asked Calvin what he wanted to be when he grows up.  He thought for a minute and said: a pizza guy (the guy who delivers pizza).  At the dinner table that night, I asked him to tell Denise what he told me.  He was afraid that we were going to laugh so he made us all pinkie promise not to.  Denise and I were both worried that Henry would laugh anyway.  When Calvin told us he wanted to be a pizza guy, Henry, completely serious, said that he didn’t think it was funny at all - he thought it was a great idea. Denise, meanwhile, burst out laughing because anyone who knows Calvin knows how unlikely it is that he will be a pizza guy!

Check out the poem Calvin wrote with Steve and Henry.

Artwork

Calvin draws all the time and although he did Cowboy Twinkie on a whim (and it does show off his real drawing skills), I thought it was a great little character.
