When a small child, Hattie came with her parents from Indiana to Page County, Iowa, where she spent the remainder of her life. At age twelve, her parents both died, so she knew the hardships of being an orphan.

His first farm on Hwy. 71, south of Shambaugh, IA, joined the Peter Beery farm. He died of heart failure, age 75.

121. Jacob R. HORNING [image] (Jacob HORNING , Johann Anton , Johann Georg , Anthonius , Johann Georg , Franz , Peter , Henrich ) was born on 18 Sep 1858 in Allen Co., Ohio. He died on 20 Aug 1940 in Salem, Marion, Oregon and was buried in Belcrest Mem. Park, Salem, OR.

In 1864, when just a small boy, Jacob's parents left Allen Co., Ohio, and went to Page County, Iowa. Sometime before 1885, he returned to Allen Co., Ohio, where he married and had 5 children. Soon after marriage, he was ordained to the ministry of the Mennonite Church. They moved to South Dakota in 1906, and then to Salem, Oregon in 1913, where he was a painter. He built a house there Jan. 1925. He died at his home at 1760 John Street.

Jacob married Fatima REAM [image], daughter of Samuel D. REAM and Maria FREID, on 14 Jan 1882 in Allen Co., OH. Fatima was born on 15 Aug 1859 in New Stark, Hancock, Ohio. She died on 28 Apr 1940 in Salem, Marion, Oregon and was buried in Belcrest Mem. Park, Salem, OR.

Orilla attended Dakota Wesleyan University (est.1883) in Mitchell, South Dakota, studying art. She was a teacher there in a private school. She went to Salem, Oregon with her parents in 1913. In later years she lived with her sister, Charlotte Lattin, in the home their parents built and moved to Jan. 1, 1925. She continued her art work, which included oil painting and chinaware painting as a hobby. She died there at age 61. Lowell Horning has an oil painting she did.
	192	F	iii	Odessa HORNING [image] was born on 5 Sep 1891 in Allen Co., OH. She died on 13 Feb 1973 in Great Falls, Cascade, MT. She was in the bookkeeper for her husband's laundry and dry cleaning business in Great Falls, MT. They had no children. Odessa died at age 81.
				Odessa married George Arthur DABLER, son of George Thomas DABLER and Hortense Eugene HADLEY, on 18 Apr 1914 in Salem, Marion, OR. George was born on 17 Apr 1889 in South Dakota. He died on 20 Jan 1959 in Valley Co., MT and was buried in New Highland Cem., Cascade Co, MT. George owned a laundry business.

122. Anna E. HORNING (Jacob HORNING , Johann Anton , Johann Georg , Anthonius , Johann Georg , Franz , Peter , Henrich ) was born on 25 Apr 1860 in Allen Co., OH. She died on 16 Jan 1932 in Wakarusa, Elkhart, IN and was buried in Olive Mennonite Church Cem., Wakarusa, IN.

She died of paralysis, age 71.

Anna married Benjamin FERGUSON, son of Samuel W. FERGUSON and Magdalena HOFFMAN, on 24 Dec 1881 in Page Co., IA. Benjamin was born on 24 Oct 1857 in Canal Winchester, Franklin, OH. He died on 20 Mar 1937 in Wakarusa, Elkhart, IN and was buried in Olive Mennonite Church Cem., Wakarusa, IN.

Soon after marriage, Benjamin and Anna united with the Mennonite Church. In about 1891, he moved his family to Cullom, Livingston Co., Illinois. About 1898, they moved to a farm located 3 miles SW of Wakarusa, Indiana. In about 1918, they moved into the town. He died at the home of his daughter, Frances Yoder, of apoplexy, age 79.

123. Isaac HORNING [image] (Jacob HORNING , Johann Anton , Johann Georg , Anthonius , Johann Georg , Franz , Peter , Henrich ) was born on 13 Jan 1862 in Allen Co., OH. He died on 25 Apr 1941 in College Springs, Page, IA and was buried in Butler Cem., Shambaugh, Page, IA.

Isaac, twin to Leah, was a farmer. In 1907, after their house burned down, they moved from Shambaugh, IA, to College Springs, IA. He was on the school board for many years and very involved in community affairs. Ironically, the older sons dropped out of school in order to run the farm. Isaac died at the age of 79, of "interstitial nephritis" (kidney failure) and "prostatis" (prostate infection). It is said there were 100+ cars at his funeral.

His great-granddaughter, Deborah (Horning) Lubbs, has the satin tie that Isaac wore on their wedding day.

Isaac married Leona FERGUSON [image], daughter of Samuel W. FERGUSON and Magdalena HOFFMAN, on 8 Oct 1891 in Moundridge, McPherson, KS. Leona was born on 24 Apr 1869 in Shambaugh, Page, IA. She died on 13 Dec 1956 in College Springs, Page, IA and was buried in Butler Cem., Shambaugh, Page, IA.

Leona's family moved from Shambaugh, Iowa, to Newton, Kansas, in about 1877. She had a stroke later in life and was confined to a wheel chair. She was lovingly cared for by her daughter, Lettie, until her death, which was due to a hemorrhage into the lungs, acute pulmonary congestion resulting in heart failure, age 87.

Her great-granddaughter, Deborah (Horning) Lubbs, has a handkerchief given to Leona by her sister Elizabeth. It's a white, delicate, thin cotton fabric and intricately stitched with lace edging. Deborah carried it with her on her wedding day, Sep. 9, 1972. She also has their barrel butter churn and butter molds. The story is that they went all the way to Chicago in 1909 to buy it.

Lettie Horning never married. She took care of her invalid mother in later years as she was confined to a wheel chair, because of a stroke. Lettie was a wonderful, cheerful lady. She died of lung cancer, age 64, shortly after she became engaged to a long time friend.

He lived on the old Horning farm until 1919, when he moved to Burlington Jct., MO.

Joseph married Anna Martha JEWETT, daughter of John A. JEWITT and Susan REDMAN, on 1 Jan 1902 in St. Joseph, Buchanan, MO. Anna was born on 3 Oct 1868 in Fairbury, Livingston, IL. She died on 3 Aug 1953 in Clarinda, Page, IA and was buried in Butler Cem., Shambaugh, Page, IA.

When just a small girl, she came with her parents from Illinois to St. Joseph, Missouri.
