Mini-Grants for Instruction

The DEF basic mini-grants program exists to help fund innovative instructional ideas and programs. The grants range from $200 to $1500 and are available to individual teachers, teaching teams, media specialists, counselors and administrators in the City Schools of Decatur. The Application Deadline is April 15th and awards are made in May to be used in the following school year.

Construction for Instruction Awards

"Construction for Instruction" Awards is a program sponsored by Village Realty in Decatur. Awards range from $100 to $1500 but larger projects will be considered. The awards are given four times each year for projects in the City of Decatur that involve the physical construction of ongoing teaching resources. Awards consist of cash and/or in-kind goods and services. Awards are available to any individual or group within the City of Decatur. Projects must be constructed within the City of Decatur and must service children and youth. Deadlines for application are August 15, November 15, February 15 and May 15.

EdVentures

EdVentures is a program designed to promote professional growth for teachers and administrators in the City Schools of Decatur. Through this program, the Foundation provides funds to cover the cost of a substitute while the regular classroom teacher takes a professional field trip. EdVenture participants may go across the hall, across town, or even to another school district to observe stellar educators in action. There are a limited number of scholarships offered each year. No application deadline.

An Apple for the Teacher

The "An Apple for the Teacher" program offers a creative way to recognize school employees for their hard work and dedication to the children and youth in our schools. For a minimum donation of $5 to the Foundation, we will send an Apple of Appreciation to a teacher, administrator, counselor- any school employee, whom you would like to recognize. The program offers the unique opportunity for individuals to show appreciation to education professionals while supporting the Foundation's programs for teachers and youth.

National Board Certification Scholarship

Decatur Education Foundation NBC Teacher Scholarships are available to any teacher or administrator in the City Schools of Decatur who is interested in pursuing National Board Certification. Our scholarships are $300 each and can be used for the upfront application fee or for fees associated with retaking a portion of the assessment. Scholarship payments are made directly to the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards.

The Book Club

The Book Club, an initiative begun by the Decatur Business Association, supplies funds that help students in Kindergarden through Second Grade to build their own personal libraries. School Principals should have applications.
