Special Funds

Special funds are given to students selected by teachers and counselors. Named funds are made possible through generous donations for the creation of awards to help underprivileged students or to honor someone with admirable qualities.

Mary Leila Honiker Student Assistance Fund

Formerly known as the Visiting Teacher Welfare Fund, the Fund has been renamed to honor the founder of the fund and one of CSD's first Visiting Teachers, Ms. Mary Leila Honiker. The Decatur Youth Fund

The Decatur Youth Fund represents a partnership between the Decatur Recreation Department and the Decatur Education Foundation, Inc. Since its founding over ten years ago, the Decatur Youth Fund provides scholarships to help children and youth attend summer school, summer camps and to participate in other enrichment opportunities.

The Bill Mealor Scholarship

The Bill Mealor scholarship was established in memory of Decatur High School student Bill Mealor, son of Bill and Marie Mealor. The scholarship is presented each year to a graduating senior male who best displays the positive attitude and overall determination and spirit that was characteristic of Bill Mealor.

The Sarah Woolf Scholarship

The Sarah Woolf Memorial Scholarship Fund was created in memory of Sarah Woolf, a member of the DHS Class of 2003 who passed away during her junior year from a rare form of bone caner. The scholarship will be given each year to a female member of the graduating class who exhibits the qualities that defined Sarah's life: a determination to excel in all of her endeavors, academic accomplishment exhibited through high grades earned in demanding coursework, and an infectious spirit of optimism.

The Thomas Hauk Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Thomas Hauk Memorial Scholarship Fund was established to honor the life of Thomas John Anthony Hauk, who died in 2002 at the age of 16 from complications related to Addison's disease. The first scholarship will be awarded to a male graduate of the Class of 2005 who has participated on the wrestling team and embodies Thomas's personal qualities of courage, friendship, and peace-making.
