Special Funds
Special funds are given to students selected by
teachers and counselors. Named funds are made possible through generous
donations for the creation of awards to help underprivileged students
or to honor someone with admirable qualities.

Mary Leila Honiker Student Assistance Fund
Formerly known as the Visiting Teacher Welfare Fund, the
Fund has been renamed to honor the founder of the fund and one of
CSD's first Visiting Teachers, Ms. Mary Leila Honiker. The Student
Assistance Fund helps students and their families who are in critical
need of financial and/or medical assistance.
The Decatur Youth Fund
The Decatur Youth Fund represents a partnership between
the Decatur Recreation Department and the Decatur Education Foundation,
Inc. Since its founding over ten years ago, the Decatur Youth Fund
provides scholarships to help children and youth attend summer school,
summer camps and to participate in other enrichment opportunities.
The Bill Mealor Scholarship
The Bill Mealor scholarship was established in memory
of Decatur High School student Bill Mealor, son of Bill and Marie
Mealor. The scholarship is presented each year to a graduating senior
male who best displays the positive attitude and overall determination
and spirit that was characteristic of Bill Mealor.
The Sarah Woolf Scholarship
The Sarah Woolf Memorial Scholarship Fund was
created in memory of Sarah Woolf, a member of the DHS Class of 2003
who passed away during her junior year from a rare form of bone
caner. The scholarship will be given each year to a female member
of the graduating class who exhibits the qualities that defined
Sarah's life: a determination to excel in all of her endeavors,
academic accomplishment exhibited through high grades earned in
demanding coursework, and an infectious spirit of optimism.
The Thomas Hauk Memorial Scholarship Fund
The Thomas Hauk Memorial Scholarship Fund was
established to honor the life of Thomas John Anthony Hauk, who died
in 2002 at the age of 16 from complications related to Addison's
disease. The first scholarship will be awarded to a male graduate
of the Class of 2005 who has participated on the wrestling team
and embodies Thomas's personal qualities of courage, friendship,
and peace-making.
