In the great gaming year of 1990, Nintendo happened to hold a contest for Nintendo games. This contest was so great that they had another contest a few years later. The Nintendo World Championship contest was like this. Gamers had to play through three Nintendo games, Super Mario Bros, Rad Racer, and Tetris. Gamers had to
play through all three games in seven minutes time, trying to get the most points out of everyone. The chanpions were held using special carts with the three games built in. There is a dipswitch on the corner of the cartridge, the contest setting had the third switch down. The carts came in Gold and Gray cases, both which had plain labels.
Thor Aackerlund won the contest being the "world champ". About a year later he started working with Camerica being a spokesperson, he was also in the advertisments. Nintendo then took Thor's title away from him since he was working with an unlicensed game company. He then sourta disapeared. No one seems to know where he is now.
These carts now go for about $1000 or more on auction. The Nintendo World Championship carts are becoming harder and harder to find. If you see one, you had better snatch it up. The 1990 Nintendo World Championship will always be remembered by Nintendo fans.
