Bruce Campbell: B Movie Hero?
It was a short
yet exciting drive up to Lexington, KY to see one of the best
B movie actors ever. If you have been living under a rock for
some time you know that B movies are movies that don't have
a lot of financial support and are not "this years blockbuster
hit." Bruce Campbell is a man among boys in the B movie genre.
With moveis like The Evil Dead, The Evil Dead 2,
and everyone's favorite Army of Darkness, Bruce made
these movies and carried them to the height that they have today.
Hmm you say you have never heard of thses movies, well I guess
you better go rent them all (if you can find them to rent) because
they're that good!
So there I am,
outside of Joesph Beth Booksellers waiting to see Bruce. As
I walk into the store, I suddenly realize, "Damn, theres a lot
of people here." The place was packed. Weirdos running around
with Ash-like costumes on screaming "Good, Bad, I'm the guy
with the gun!" and other quips from the movies. As I make it
to the first register, I see a table with 5 books left of Bruce's
new book If Chins Could Kill: A Story of a B Movie Actor.
I rushed over to the table and eagerly snatched one up but to
find out that the book was at the inflated price of 24.95! Being
a college guy, 25 bucks is a lot of money, but I thought "This
is Bruce f'in Campbell and he'll sign it for me. Just at that
moment, I overheard the clerk say, "Well you will be letter
"P" in the line. Hmm that would mean I would wait just over
2 1/2 hours *in line* to get him to sign the book. Thats when
I decided to go for the picture instead.
I made my way down
to the main speaking area since Bruce was going to give about
a 30 minute introduction on why is such a good thing that we
put money into his pocket by buying his book. It was standing
room only, so I get the great idea to stand by the stage and
when Bruce came into the area, we stood right in front of me.
I snapped this picture of him picking his nose.
So Bruce read to
us from his book about the fanatic fans that follows him across
America. I found him to be very cool and very sarcastic fella.
His "off the cuff" humor was intriguing and very funny.
Finally it was
time for a little Q/A. The most stupid question comes from a
girl who said "What does the zombies taste like?" Bruce responded,
"There called movies honey, that means they're not real." Also,
one guys yells, "I need some tips on being an actor, do you
have any?", Bruce calmy raises his book and states, "For a mere
25 bucks, all the answers are right here." Heres a picture of
Bruce remarking to a question.
Well I didn't get
a book signed but I did snag this cool picture of Bruce and
me together. The stupid employee stopped me and said, "Mr. Campbell
doesn't like to pose for pictures." So, I snapped this picture
and made a run for it for the door. I escaped the clutches of
the angry book store employees, with their Nazi rules. I would
have to say Bruce was cool, even though I didn't get a book
it was cool to talk to him indirectly. Wish you were here Evaporator!
