Update #78:
Mary Ann -- Thursday, 24 February 2000, at 8:52 a.m. 1. CAMPAIGN SUGGESTIONS FROM A HOLLYWOOD "INSIDER": One of the new members of the PFU Campaign (who shall remain anonymous for the time being) has a friend "in the business" (Fox Network), and has spoken to us about our Campaign. Here are some of the comments he made; please integrate these points into your letters to Bonnie Hammer: If anything is going to happen, it's going to be at the Sci-Fi Channel, so that's where we should be focusing our energies. BE SPECIFIC in your letters to Ms. Hammer; for example, make it clear that our primary goal is a NEW SEASON (or, at minimum, a TV movie); acknowledge that cast changes might be necessary (especially with respect to Debra Messing)-I would add that we should INSIST that Adam Storke remain in the Tom Daniels role if at all possible. Finally, when asked if it would be possible to resurrect Prey after two years, he said, "Nothing is impossible in this business!" We may be hearing more from this source in the coming weeks-so watch this space! BONNIE HAMMER'S ADDRESS IS: Bonnie Hammer, Executive Vice President, General Manager Sci-Fi Channel, 1230 Avenue of the Americas; New York, NY 10020. 2. OTHER ITEMS FOR LETTERS TO MS. HAMMER: Some of these have been mentioned before, but I've made a few additions: A live "chat"-organized by Sci-Fi-with some of the cast and other Preymakers; PLEASE MENTION that this is something that S-F has done for Brimstone fans, and we should expect no less! Ask for an explanation of WHY this has not been arranged for fans of Prey. A Prey "Marathon"-again, this has already been done for Brimstone; ask WHY NOT for Prey?! AN INTERESTING PIECE OF EVIDENCE you should cite is the different numbers of postings on the Prey vs. Brimstone Bulletin Boards on the Sci-Fi website-as of yesterday, Prey (which has only been on since January) had 131, while Brimstone had only 30 (and it started on S-F last year!). As always, ask for Prey merchandise, especially high-quality tapes of episodes 1-13, but also posters, T-shirts, mugs, fridge magnets, autographed cast photos-the whole shebang! You can email the Sci-Fi Store directly at customerservice@totale.com. Also, those of you who've seen it can "review" Into Pitch Black (for which Prey was pre-empted!), and mention also how well Prey has been doing in the Nielsens. Also consider writing to SCI-FI ENTERTAINMENT, asking them for a feature article on Prey: 11305 Sunset Hills Road, Reston, VA 20190 U.S.A. (sovmedia@erolds.com). 3. PREY RAFFLE The prizes in the raffle are: pictures of the Prey cast that I am donating. a Prey mug and Prey tote bag, a Prey story bracelet, and some magnets from Carol (and Mary Ann/Ute). All money has to be in US denominations. The prices for the tickets are as follows: 1 ticket is $1.00.
The drawing will be at the Mini-Prey Convention. Contact MollieKelly@worldnet.att.net. 4. MY BRIGHT IDEA: I had the brainwave that it might be a good idea for individuals to write to the various Preymakers (especially the production people and the actors in "minor" roles) to personally thank them for their work in Prey, and to invite them to the Con. The wonderful Diane G, if you missed it, actually spoke to Shelley Morrison [Bianca] and Sam Anderson [Dr. Copeland] because she is a brave, committed and fabulous person all round! At the bottom of this update, you can see our address list to date (more addresses will be added by our PREY mini-con organizer Elaine as they become available): 5. FYI: Here's a copy of the letter of invitation sent to the Preymakers by Agamemcon (thanks Elaine!): February 13, 2000
Hello, my name is Alec Orrock, and I am the convention chairman for AgamemCon IV. AgamemCon is a science fiction convention held each year in the Los Angeles - Burbank area, which focuses on television and film production and its related topics. Several hundred attendees and guests from across the country and world attend our three-day event, and this year is proving to be bigger than ever. This year AgamemCon will be held Friday through Sunday, June 23-25, 2000 at the Hilton Burbank Airport, the same location as the last two years. We have a large number of events planned for the weekend and would like to invite you to participate in our weekend. This year AgamemCon is hosting a special celebration of the acclaimed science - science fiction drama PREY. PREY has achieved and maintained a large and loyal following since it's original airing. A large number of the show's supporters have chosen this year's AgamemCon as the site for their Mini-Con, many of whom will be coming from all across the country and world. We would like to extend a special invitation to join us during the weekend as we examine the various aspects of the series. Your participation in our event will bring a new perspective on the characteristics that made PREY the enduring television show it is today. Expanding on last year's panel subjects, this year we're planning wider coverage on the various "behind the scenes" aspects of production. Panel and demonstration topics will focus on many subjects, including writing, wardrobe, props, acting, directing, and more. Along with our science fiction programming, we have joined with the National Space Society through their Southern California chapter OASIS to provide space exploration panels throughout the weekend. Various space industry professionals will be featured speakers. Several special events scheduled throughout the weekend, such as our Guest Reception on Friday night and our Masquerade Costume Contest and Dance on Saturday night, will round out the weekend. We would love to have you join us on one or more of these panels and events over the weekend. Thank you for your time. Please contact me and let me know if you would like to attend this year's AgamemCon as one of our guests. I can be reached at the convention's main address, phone number, or e-mail address listed below. Sincerely, Alec Orrock
