When Michael was about four or five years old everything on TV was Davy Crockett. Michael and Danny had Davy Crockett rifles. One day they were playing in my yard. Kenneth and Ronnie were in school. They usually played from our back yard to the Twichell's back yard. Mr. Twichell called to tell Danny he was going somewhere. They were not in my yard. I thought they had gone up there to play. We called them, but no answer. Both of them were real good to answer when called. Mr. Twichell and I panicked. I called Jimmy. He called Mrs. Twichell at school. He got in the car and rode up and down the streets and Laurens Road. I don't remember how long we looked and called but they were in the high weeds in the vacant lot behind Mrs. Lyons' house. They were hunting a bear. The weeds were higher than their heads and they had wandered around trying to find the way out. They were so dirty they looked like "lost babes in the woods." Mrs. Twichell said she thought they shouldn't be allowed to play together. Mr. Twichell was glad for them to play together because I usually watched them every minute and fed them both if they got hungry.

Another day I was working at the Airport Dry Cleaning substation. I had gone at 1:00 PM. Jimmy would be sleeping but I could leave Michael there to watch television. Kenneth would be home from school soon. I got off work at 6:00 PM. So, when Jimmy came to pick me up he had Kenneth with him and said they couldn't find Michael. I just had a fit. Why didn't he find Michael and let me walk home? He wanted me home to help find him! When we drove into the yard Michael was coming across the back. He was crying. He was wet and his clothes were almost frozen stiff! He had been down in the woods. That was where all the neighborhood children liked to play. Ronnie had jumped the creek and dared Michael to jump. Michael had jumped but not across! Oh, but I was furious. Now another bad cold and sore throat!! I'd better not hear of him playing with Ronnie Twichell again! Every time something happened they were with a Twichell or at the Twichell's.
