OPAC Typing Contest
UPDATED 07/21/2001: Please note OPAC is not offering the contest this year. I sent them an email and they replied that they were not doing a contest this year, but maybe next year. Let's hope they do it again, as it sure was fun!
UPDATED 01/19/2002: I just tried clicking on the OPAC link I have offered on the bottom of this page and it does not work. I guess the company is no longer in business.
UPDATED 09/04/2003: The OPAC link does work; however, there is no contest. I am keeping this page on my website in the event a contest is offered in future.
You can win up to $2,500 (1st place, Professional Division) in the "Fastest Typist in the Nation" keyboarding contest sponsored by OPAC (Office Proficiency Assessment and Certification), a software testing company.
All you have to do is download the program and take a 5-minute typing test.
Here are the winners of the 2000 Contest:
Student Division
1st place ($1000) - Jenna Reese, 131 Net WPM
2nd place ($750) - Brian Boyles, 123 Net WPM
3rd place ($500) - Brooks Darling, 112 Net WPM
Professional Division
There was a three-way tie for first place, 134 Net WPM. Pursuant to the rules,a "Type Off" was held to determine a single winner for each prize. The three finalists were notified about the "Type Off" and were given a week to complete a new test. Winners of the Professional Division are:
1st place ($2500) - Alice Kleeman, 142 Net WPM (Type Off Score)
2nd place ($1000) - Wayne Stoler, 141 Net WPM (Type Off Score)
3rd place ($750) - Keith Wilson, 125 Net WPM (Type Off Score)
It is very easy to enter. You can take the test as many times as you want to try for a better score. All you have to do after taking the test is print the results and fax them in with your name, address, etc.
I typed 102 wpm and finished in the top 100. I received a nifty certificate stating my accomplishment. I will be brushing up on my typing so I can try again.
