Illinois 84 is a very squiggly route running from Galena along the Mississippi River to the eastern Quad Cities area. In fact, most of it is part of the Great River Road. At its north end, IL 84 turns into WI 80 at the state line. The number 80 isn't surprising because IL84 used to be IL80. But as I-80 was being built, they didn't want to confuse people with 2 routes having the number 80. So they made this highway Illinois 84.
Intersections from north to south:
IL84 begins at the Wisconsin line, at WI80's southern end
IL84 joins US20 eastbound through Galena
Then IL84 breaks off and goes south again
IL84 joins US52/IL64 east through Savanna
Then US52 and IL64 break off
IL136 at Fulton
US30 at E. Clinton
I-80 near Rapids City
IL84 joins IL92 eastbound
IL84 crosses IL5 as IL92 turns east onto IL5
IL84 ends at US6 by Colona.
IL84 is a nice drive along the river corridor. It goes by Mississippi Palisades SP in Savanna. It passes through Galena on that town's main route.
It passes through these towns: Galena, Hanover, Savanna, Thomson, Fulton, E. Clinton, Albany, Rapids City, Silvis, Green Rock.
